WHY ARE WE HERE

by J. Marshall Wade
(ballwin missouri)

Why are we here? Danged if I know! However, accepting the premise I've been here for awhile, I?m going to give it a good shot. Fundamentally; we have somehow been dumped on this orbiting rock, to obviously educate ourselves in all of the philosophical disciplines (evolution), learning all we can about everything, so we can convene into clustered councils where no-one has the __________________(you fill in the blank space) to make an intelligent decision (more evolution), and then subject all of our synaptic connections to hundreds of more years of intensive, theoretically, thoughtful deliberations (even more evolution) on what the hell this is all about - scary isn't it?

Whoever, or whatever, jettisoned (out with the trash) our ancestral protoplasm on this soaking wet stone refuge, did not want us screwing up their planetary home, and realizing it would take thousands of our years for us to figure out a way off, they didn't leave behind a book of instructions. Well, since they were not even aware of where they were, our original origins of organic matter spent eons of time locating whatever they ate, and occupied their days off having instinctive 'cell-sharing.' The tiny plasmas survived (even more evolution), and then, a couple of future fungi came to the conclusion they enjoyed it, and 'emotions' were born.

Ever since then, they were never happy just groveling around, surviving, and breeding -they all got greedy and selfish! The males, deciding they felt much happier when they were 'cell sharing,' and started worming all over the place to find more offerings to lure the females. The females, realizing they also delighted in 'cell sharing,' and were now being offered gifts, initiated - wiggling - and the competition was under way...and here we are today, doing exactly the same thing!

The only distinguishable distinction is that the males get more educated so they can work longer and harder hours, in order to offer the females larger, more elaborate, and more expensive presents. The females do the same thing, so they can purchase more expensive and seductive clothes, cosmetics, and sexy hair-dos. And on and on it goes!

Cell sharing may be one of the main reasons we are here, but it is by far not the only one. Among others there are two more very important reasons, and they are to survive and be happy. Survival is self-explanatory, so why is being happy one of the main reasons for our existence? It's actually very simple!

When we are happy, we are nicer to others, we help others, and we tell our loved ones we care. Isn't that what we are supposed to do...help ourselves and others to survive and be happy? Of course! But that only explains, in a nutshell, what our general reasons are as a race of humans --- so what is your personal reason as an individual? I'm really elated you asked, for this is the greatest part of all...as individuals, our meanings in life are anything we wish them to be! And that is an honest-to-goodness fact!

Especially in America, thanks to our military, we get to choose our individual reasons for living. We can help or hurt others, be good or bad, and hate or love - it is our choice. We can be any type of human, go almost anywhere, and do almost anything, as long as we are willing to pay the price. Not sure of anyone else, but I am going to take the easy path...and that lane is the one which leads to beautiful scenery, good friends, and a wonderful family.

It is the one where we realize we need a good education, so we may earn a decent living, read meaningful books, travel to great places, purchase nice things, be a good parent, and a good citizen. That is why we have free will, to create our own individual and special meaning in our lives! Imagine what you can do next!
