Tools to Find and Start a Great New Career

Before you jump to another field, consider your motive first. You might just be burned out or discontent with the environment, your colleagues, or even the work commute. Weigh your job duties and working conditions against your preferences to identify the characteristics you like and dislike about your job.

Carefully consider the motives behind your desire to change careers. Sometimes, you might just need to find a new job, and not a new career. Most importantly, you have to reassess yourself, your work, your values, your interests, and the skills you’ve acquired in the past, so you can choose and be well-prepared for your new passion.

When you’ve finally decided to quit your job, be sure you’re prepared for your next endeavor before handing in your resignation letter. After which, make a graceful exit. Begin by drafting a resignation letter stating your intent of leaving the company, the last day you’ll be coming in for work, and your reason for leaving.

At this point, courtesy, etiquette, and professionalism will go a long way. Approach your boss at a time when there’s not much work to be done, and don’t tell anyone about your plans until you’ve discussed them with him or her.

It’s also important that you give enough notice. On your last weeks at work, don’t dump all your workload on your colleagues and leave them in a lurch. Also, don’t burn bridges because the ties you keep can be established as part of your network. Moreover, always make sure to thank people on your last day.

On your new job, there will surely be a lot of introductions. Make a small change so that you feel good. A new hairstyle may boost your confidence and make an amazing first impression. Mingle with the new people whenever you have an opportunity, and familiarize yourself with the demands of the job.

Ask for specific information like how your predecessor went about the assigned tasks, and listen carefully to pointers and insights the people around you may share. Being aware of your new environment makes the adjustment smoother and quicker.

For more success in your future, you can even go to school. However, juggling both work and advanced studies can be quite a hefty task. But, if you’re working fulltime with a fixed shift, you may need to take weekend classes. It would be better if you can make an arrangement with your supervisor to change your shift or allow you to offset certain weekdays. That can actually be a possibility for many companies. I

t never hurts to ask what your options are. You can also try enrolling for an online education which allows a more versatile schedule. Attending workshops, seminars, and other short courses may also be enough to boost your credentials. Whatever further studies you pursue, just make sure it’s aligned with your career goals and passions.

Never hesitate to dream big. You will never be disappointed if you learn to push beyond your limits and be brave enough to venture into the unknown.
