The Making of a Great Career

When it comes to your career, learning is nonstop. Show your eagerness on the job by going out of your way to learn more about what is required of you. Go back to your evaluation and review the points your boss had given you, so you know which areas you can actually work and improve on.

Continue researching and maximizing the resources available for you. Also, don’t skip training programs and seminars offered by your company. If your job requires technical knowledge, be in the know on the latest gadgets and software used in your field of service. You may even want to consider taking a post-graduate degree to further hone your skills.

Just a piece of advice to remember at all times: make sure to keep track of all that you’ve learned by keeping backup discs of the files in your computer, and hard copies of contracts and memos. When you’ve finished with a task, make a mental note of what worked to finish the assignment that has been given to you, so you can implement it for the future or when another chance comes your way.

Moreover, you need to determine your salary range in advance by making a survey of how much similar jobs pay from magazines and classified ads in the newspaper. Your salary might fall somewhere in between the lowest compensation you would take and the highest amount you think the company will actually be willing to pay.

When you’re negotiating your salary, keep in mind that you’re in a good position to discuss bonuses, additional compensation possibilities, and working conditions when only the basic compensation figure has already been agreed upon. Once the negotiation has been made, remember to put whatever has been discussed in writing.

It also helps to soup up your resume on a regular basis. It’s not the cute borders or fancy fonts that will attract potential employers to look deeper into it, but the content of your resume. Instead of concentrating on aesthetics, go for a functional one instead.
Begin the page by stating your employment objective, then explain what you can do, and which organization has benefited from your skills. Emphasize your skills and accomplishments, and if you’ve received any form of recognition.

Remember, you must make them believe that you are the most suited for the job, and the only way to do this is to stand out. Don’t go for generic sentences. Look in guides for what employers look for.

You are also closer to landing your dream job if you know how to network. It’s time that you put your best foot forward because getting what you like in your career requires work. You’ll he head on with competition, and you need to outsmart them now.

It’s time to establish connections and start expanding contracts by participating in a variety of workshops related to your field. Seek out volunteering as well, because while you’re not getting paid at all for this, you could be absorbed if you impress the right group of people.
