Some Warning Signs to Pay Attention to With Moles
There are some people that are not aware of the fact that having moles on the body's skin is common for every person, and a majority of people are even born with them. Another common factor regarding moles is that they can continue to appear on various parts of the body, and this will often continue until approximately when an individual turns the age of 30.
Moles that are found on a person's body can have many different characteristics that are quite normal in their appearance and are not a cause for the individual to become worried that there is a problem going on.
There is not one set color for a mole and they will often appear in a variety of different colors, including moles that are of a reddish color (red-colored moles however, generally will not appear until around the age of 40 or later).
They may also even appear in various shades of colors, from flesh-tones that are light, to flesh-tones that are much darker. There are some individuals that may even notice moles to appear a deep dark brown color or even black.
In most cases moles that appear on a person should cause no reason for concern and are perfectly harmless. However, there are some warning signs that you should pay attention and watch for that could possibly show the characteristics of being a risk for skin cancer.
Below are some of the warning signs in moles that should be checked out by a health care professional when they are noticed.
• Irregular Shaped Border –
If the mole's border appears to have edges that are jagged or blurred, as the edges of a harmless mole should be consistent in shape and color.
• Irregular Surface Traits –
Moles that continue to itch, bleed, flake, or rise above the skin's surface may need to be looked at by a doctor and removed.
• Sides that are Shaped Differently –
Moles that have an appearance of differing colors (not shades of color) or is asymmetric in shape or size (has sides that are completely different than the other), it could very well be cause for concern and should be seen by a physician.
• Large in Size –
Normal moles that are harmless are generally 6mm or about ¼ inch in size. Moles found to be larger than this should be seen by your family doctor. It is much better to be safe now than sorry later.
• Colors that Vary –
Moles that are of different colors completely are warning signs that there could be a problem and should be seen by your doctor. It is true that harmless moles are often of varying shades, however, the color itself should remain the same hue all throughout.
As soon as any of these signs are noticed, the best step that you can take is to make an appointment with your family health care provider.
In many cases moles can be removed, putting your mind at ease and leaving only a small scar behind.
