For years many people look forward to the day they can retire but the same can not be said about becoming a senior. Although many actually become seniors before they retire, there is something about this word that just don't sit right with most people approaching that age.

Getting old, might be what comes to mind, even though it is far from the truth. These are supposed to be the "golden years" and should therefore be looked forward to. Things you have wanted to do or see for years are know just waiting to be explored.

This is supposed to be your time, time not having to worry about your children but time to enjoy your grandkids. Have you wanted to move to a warmer climate, now is the time. It is all about what you want to do. Take advantage of this time and enjoy it.

Despite all of these things, there are facts which can not be ignored. Although becoming a senior or retired does not mean you are getting old, you have to face the fact that you are getting older. Because of this there are certain issues you might want to discuss with your loved ones.

In the beginning issues like these might not go over to well with your family, but you need to insist. Nobody knows what the future holds and this way your loved ones know what you would like in case something was to happen. Lots of unforeseen matters may occur and it is good to be prepared.

Issues you might want to address are life insurance, nursing homes, health care and funerals. All of these things will make it so much easier for your family to make decisions if something was to happen to you.

There are places right here on the internet where you can go to get some real good tips and advise on how other people has dealt with issues regarding becoming a senior. Sharing your experience with others can be a blessing.

HOW TO STAY YOUNG

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctor worry about them. That is why you pay him/her.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. " An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

On How To Be Young Again

What is good about aging is the fact that though it is inevitable, it is something that we can control. It isn't true then that we are basically powerless when it comes to the aging process. Although we can't stop it, we can certainly slow it down.. or hasten it, depending on the choices that we make.

If you really want to, you can age well. You can be one of those people who look like they are 18 when they are actually 28. These people, may have the gift of the genes, but this isn't the only factor.

What we do to our body and what we do to our lives will factor in the aging process. A person who eats well, exercises often and generally thinks positive thoughts will most likely have fewer wrinkles than those who don't.

To help you feel young and be young once again, here are some edicts that you should live by.

Though shall not water your sense of humor.

Keeping things light in the face of extreme challenges is one secret to staying young and being on top of things. Being in control and coping with problems doesn't necessarily entail being serious and frowning all the way through the situation. You can solve the problem while still keeping your enthusiasm and good humor intact.

Smile every chance you get. This not only uses fewer facial muscles, but it also lights up the face and relaxes your whole expression, making you appear more inviting and more youngful.

Though shall remember to have fun

Relax. Working like a horse may get you to the top of the corporate heap but too much work may put you on a hospital stretcher. Set aside some free time that will help you relax and just have fun.

Take up a new hobby, something that will occupy your time in addition to your work and yet still be productive in a way so that you won't feel guilty. Treat yourself to a change. Go on a vacation and recharge. Have fun and enjoy life. This is one way to becoming and staying young.

Though shall hang out with younger people

Although they may seem pretty superficial sometimes, younger people may surprise you. Hanging out with them will allow you to be open to new ideas and not be so much of a fuddy-duddy.
