Self Help to Stay Motivated Every Day

It’s the middle of the month and right now, your fitness drive pulled a disappearing act. You need to maintain your workout mojo, but for good this time. There’s actually a legit reason you always seem to fall off the workout wagon: the conventional approach to exercise almost forces you to bail out.

Research actually reveals that almost half of the people who start out an exercise program drop out within six months. That’s because the most common reasons given for exercising usually revolve around the opinions of other people.

It has very little to do with you, and that’s way you don’t keep going. In fact, working out to make others happy is the least successful way to compel you to break a sweat. You are more likely to stay when you do it to feel good instead of look good.

Curing the motivation problem is at the crux of the belief that the more you do stuff you like to do and not what you think you should be getting into, the more you’ll stay at it and keep doing what needs to be done.

Intrinsically motivated exercisers were more likely to stay on the wagon. So, it’s time to take charge. Appoint yourself as the head of your fitness decisions.

Don’t let well-meaning friends force you into another gym membership you end up not using. You must develop autonomy if you want to harness motivation.

People who feel as if they’re making their own decisions feel higher levels of self-worth, and this leaves them feeling more motivated. Start by asking yourself if you want to exercise at all.

If it’s because what others have said about what you look, your efforts are probably doomed. But if you decide to get fit because you want to feel stronger or healthier, success is the most likely outcome because the end result actually means something to you.

Next, you must find a form of exercise you enjoy so much you’d do it even if it weren’t good for you. If the mellow vibe of yoga brings you bliss, light up some scented candles and roll out the mat.

If active play is more your thing, join a league or sign up for lessons. And if you truly despise the treadmill, don’t push yourself. You have to be invested in what you’re doing so your performance will improve.

This is what will feed your desire to go back for more. If you honestly can’t equate exercise with fun, it’s time to flex your take-charge muscles by setting specific personal goals. Whatever your goal, this helps you stay motivated for the short term and for the long.

People thrive on feedback, and having goals provide just that. You create more meaningful goals if you focus on the tangible accomplishments. Don’t base your drive on what the weighing scale says.

Instead, your goals should be based on feeling good because that’s what will keep you excited to go to the gym. Physical accomplishments give you positive feelings about yourself. Looking for motivation via the outside just won’t cut it.
