Self Help Tips to Rock at Your Job

Now that salary raises are practically extinct, it can be hard to gauge whether or not you’re in the boss’ good graces. Well, there are a few things you can do to finally win them over.

Your boss may not be big on compliments, and that’s perfectly normal. Just like parents, your supervisor can pay more attention to screw-ups.

So, even though he might stop by your office to one day say, “Hey, nice work on that report,” he might not offer extended commentary. That simply means that your stuff isn’t just great, but because it’s really great. Try to do better and don’t slack off just because you feel appreciated.

If you’re asking for some time off, don’t get nervous. First of all, it’s every employee’s privilege. Okay, so when you do well at work, your boss may want you around more often working like a dog. If he’s less than psyched, that’s because you’re really needed at work.

Get nervous when he couldn’t care less because this means that your absence won’t make much of a difference. If it’s a trip that you can always reschedule, ask when the best time would be.

If it’s for something important, try to explain your situation clearly and ask how you can make up for it. You may have to sacrifice a little more when you get back, but isn’t that what success is all about?

If your boss sends you to events alone, then you know you’ve won his trust. He knows you’ll do well to represent the company in his absence. Only prized employees will get sent off into the corporate wilderness wearing the company’s name.

If you’re suddenly thrown into this sweet, yet daunting position, be on your best behavior and wear the right clothes. Look people in the eye when they talk to you and take note of everything that transpired on that day. Expect to give a rundown of the events when you get back to work.

If you’ve noticed work piling up, take on the extra responsibility. This is your chance to step out of the box and showcase your other strengths.

When he comes around and asks you for just one more, that’s because they like the output. It’s not hate at all, especially with work. Good performance is expected at all times, and there’s no room for mediocre work in the cutthroat world you all live in.

Your boss only asks for more if they know that you can hit it out of the park. If he expresses frustration with someone else’s work, don’t tattle on that person. Just keep quiet and ask if there’s anything you can do to help.

As long as you know you’ve been working your butt off, it’s time to look at the long term. When your boss knows that you have plans to stick around and grow with the company, that’s already a big plus for you.

Backup this belief by constantly craving for knowledge and learning. If people see that you’re out to learn more about the world, they’ll respect you for it.
