Self Help Guide for When Envy Gets the Better of You

A colleague saunters down the hall with the very expensive bag you’ve been eyeing for months now. Then, your best friend gets sent to an exotic country for work, something you’ve always wanted.

And no matter how good your life is, you’re suddenly consumed by the green-eyed monster otherwise known as envy. But hang on for a second before you try to quash it. Yes, that emotion has gotten a bad rap.

When you want something, people immediately assume that you’ve just committed one of the seven deadly sins. But experts believe that envy, rather than being something entirely too negative, can actually be used as a force for good if you just know how to work it.

Envy can be a powerful tool to help you figure out what you truly want in your life. All you need to do is listen to what it’s trying to tell you.

And according to new findings, envy also gives you a kick in the behind to go after what you want most in life. Your frustration over not having what the other person has may motivate you to pursue it more aggressively.

It can even push you to take your skills to the next level. People can actually perform better when they recall a time where they lost against someone.

So, it’s time to stop fighting those feelings of envy and instead learn to follow them all the way to where you want to be.

Envy is like a flashing neon sign that tells you to pay attention. For instance, when someone else gets the promotion you’ve been vying for, what does that tell you about your own career ambitions?

Envy points to your most fundamental intentions and it’s part of the emotional system that helps you identify what you ultimately want and attain it. Feelings of envy are particularly powerful when you’re at some kind of turning point in your life, even when you don’t realize it at that time.

Envy often crops up when there’s an aspect of your life you’ve outgrown or when you aren’t being true to yourself. Your feelings of being uptight and angry mean that you’re ready to explore some new territory for yourself.

Feeling envious is actually a great weather vane for telling you that you’re a little stuck or trapped. Things have finally become stale and you just need more.

Do you want what someone else has and do you want it bad? Well then, good. Because it turns out that this is your secret weapon for scoring just about anything.

You just have to make it work for you by trying to attain what you don’t have. After all, the best things in life are the ones you’ve worked for.

Sure, it’s nice to have things served in a silver platter every now and then, but that’s not what life is all about. You’ll soon notice that it’s the working for something that makes things more interesting, and maybe it’s time you sweat it out just a bit.
