Self Help Diet Tips | The Dangers Of Using Fad Diets

You have heard stories and seen the results of people going into fad dieting. They do indeed look great, and seem to be in the best of spirits. But then again, you don’t know what goes on behind closed doors.

Most people who undergo fad dieting have to consume a specific number of calories per day. And consuming just about 800 per day is alarmingly low for some people who are used to having 1200-1500. That can make even the most mild-tempered person be quite irritable and downright unreasonable.

You need energy to function daily, and you need all the nutrients and vitamins that you can get so that your brain will be able to perform at its best.

The main purpose of fad dieting is for you to lose water. Example of which is the lemonade diet. Imagine just drinking nothing but lemonade and eating nothing but lemonade…nothing but lemonade. When you’re thirsty, you drink lemonade. When you’re hungry, you drink lemonade. Your body would naturally starve and end up using stored fat and break up protein.

Breaking up of fat is good, but breaking up protein can lead to muscle wasting and wearing off of vital organs. The lack of water can also pose some stress in your kidneys. Water is the universal detoxification substance. Pure water intake will help you wash out toxins in the body produced by normal metabolic processes.

It’s advisable to lose 1-2 lbs per week when you want to lose weight. Losing fat too quickly will not make your skin adjust along with the shrinking of body mass. This in turn would produce skin that is rubbery, dry, and loose making you look older than your actual age.

You will have to resort to surgery to remove excess skin. Formation of stones is also a problem with fad dieting. Kidney stones can come from consuming less water than is necessary. Gall stones on the other hand, will form because of the mistaken notion that you can eat as much fat and protein as you want as long as you trim the carbohydrates.

Fad dieting may make you lose weight quickly – but not permanently. Problem here is, you suddenly consume up to just ¼ (and even less) calories than you take in during the day. Initially, you will lose weight. However, your body will perceive this as a time of crisis, and will actually slow down your metabolism.

When you go back to your usual diet after losing so much weight, your body is still programmed to break down food slowly as well as store fat in the process. You’ll end up with the same weight as you started in just days of eating normally.

Eventually, you’ll end up twice as heavy as your initial weight. Before you go into that fad dieting program, make sure that you have read all the pro’s and con’s of it.

Remember that all will claim that there will be no side effects as with Atkin’s diet. But improper utilization of the diet has made several followers weak, easily tired, cranky, and even have hypertension (because of the claim that they can eat as much protein and fat as they want).

Do your research carefully and scientifically so you will know what is in store for you when you do fad dieting.
