Establishing a successful Home Based business is a big and rewarding challenge.

What are the main challenges?
-Attitude and Motivation
-Commitment and Persistence

You may have other challenges but I’ll work with those listed.

Determine what you need to do. Having a daily or weekly plan is very useful. Some even have quarterly plans. Plan your work and work your plan. Of course it nearly goes without saying that you have an overall plan or vision and an annual plan – right! Operating your home based business can become all consuming so be sure to set time aside for yourself, family and friends. It takes a bit of discipline to allow yourself the luxury of some free time but it is essential that you do look after yourself. Beware of time wasters. I know just how easy it is to loose a few hours of valuable time by being distracted with something new or even a whim.

The old saying still holds true – you need to spend some money to make money. Organise a budget that you can work with. You will need money for internet connection and website hosting at the very least. Then comes money for software, ebooks, training, business opportunities, business building resources such as targeted leads, and advertising and promotion. There is a vast quantity of free resources available but remember the old adage – you get what you pay for. Sometimes the free stuff isn’t up to standard so you will need to invest in your business and in yourself by buying better quality business and educational resources. YOU are the most valuable resource your business has. Start off with free stuff and upgrade as you learn more and feel more confident in what you are doing.

Take time to determine the resources you need.

– What home business training would help?
- Which resources (ebooks, books, software, teleclasses, ezines/newsletters, autoresponder courses, and coaches/mentors) are you going to need?

Seek out good quality home business training. I provide and am developing some excellent training options and courses on my website. Subscribe to a few ezines that focus on your area of interest. Most ezine publishers are interested in providing their subscribers with interesting and informative articles, resources, marketing options and autoresponder courses. Figure out what is most important for you. Avoid the temptation to jump from one new thing to another. You’ll waste your time, money, and energy.

- What knowledge do you need ?

They say that knowledge is power. Well actually it is only potential power. The power comes from ACTION. Read articles in ezines, search the net, find websites that can provide you with helpful resources. Acquiring knowledge takes time. When you are ready to learn something new just go for it. When I first started in Internet marketing way back in 2001 I knew absolutely nothing about what was involved. Had I known I may not have started. The journey thus far has been fascinating. I’ve learnt a lot and continue to learn daily. I believe that this Internet marketing and Home Business is a process that we each need to work through at our own pace. Also, what works for one person may not necessarily work for you. So don’t get too caught up in what a particular ”guru” has to say. And remember that things change so quickly on the Internet that we need to be constantly aware of what is happening.

You need to possess or develop a good, strong, positive ATTITUDE and a high level of personal MOTIVATION.
The right attitude and motivation are as important as your Home Business plan. A negative attitude will be your biggest threat to business success. You need to be prepared to put in the “hard” yards to develop your own home business. In the early stages there may be very little financial return in terms of money and time invested. Have a vision for what you are working towards. Use affirmations, post motivational messages in your work space and even look upon your business as ”Your Million Dollar Business”.

You know what you want to achieve so don’t allow the negativity of others get in the way. They haven’t got your vision, passion and desire.

Make a firm commitment to yourself to never, ever quit. Quitting is the biggest reason people fail in Home Business and online. Understand that only relentless focused action has the power to turn dreams into reality. Success will not happen overnight, but with commitment and persistence it will happen.

If at first you don’t succeed, perservere, be proactive, analyse what has worked and what hasn’t. Believe in yourself and in your ability to be successful.
