It
Rules This game is also known as Touch, Tag or Catch. The person who is IT has to run after the other people and try and touch them. If you are touched by IT, then you then become IT or the chaser. There are two main rules:
1. IT or the chaser must not run after the same person all the time. 2. If you are caught by the chaser, you cannot try to catch the person who caught you straight away. In one version of this game, you can to call a short truce. This happens when someone being chased crosses their fingers and shouts "kings". You may decide to rule "no kings". What you need Nothing except space to run around in.

Everyone sings: The Farmer’s in his den, The Farmer wants a wife, The Farmer chooses a wife to join him in the centre of the circle. They hold hands and circle round while the others sing: The wife wants a child, The Farmer’s wife chooses someone to stand in the centre. The farmer, wife and child hold hands and circle round while the others sing: The child wants a nurse, The child chooses a nurse who joins the inside circle. As before, everyone sings: The nurse wants a dog, A dog is chosen by the nurse and joins the others in the centre of the circle. Everyone sings and pats the dog on the head: Everyone pat the dog, When the dog has been chosen and the final part of the song sung, the dog then becomes the farmer and the game starts again.

Wall to wall
Rules This game is also known as Den to den, Top and bottom or Running across. The aim of this game is to cross from one place to another without being caught. One person is IT and stands in the middle of the space between two walls or bases. Everyone else lines up along one base or wall. When IT gives the signal, the other players have to try and run across the space to the other base. If they are touched by IT then they must go into the middle and try to touch or tig the other players. Once you have started running from one side to another you must keep going, you can not turn back. What you need An open space to cross from one place to another (such as across a playground from wall to wall)

LEAPFROG
Rules
This game is also known as Frog jump. The simplest way for two people to play Leapfrog is for one person to turn sideways to the other person, bend over, put their hands on their knees or legs and tuck their head in towards their chest. They are then a frog. The other person then has to run and leap over the frog, placing their hands on the frog’s back to help them over. This game can also be played in a larger group with a line of frogs to keep it going for longer – The game ends when you get tired, run out of space or time or fall over!

Hide and seek
Rules
One person is IT and they are the seeker, or person who will look for the other players. The person who is IT stands at the base (home). They cover their eyes or turn around. They count to an agreed number, or recite a tune or particular words, while the rest of the players hide. When the counting or rhyme is finished, IT says “Ready or not, here I come” or “Coming, ready or not” and runs to find everyone. The people who are hidden remain hiding until they are found and the last one to be found is the winner. What you need An open space with places to hide or players to be unseen An agreed spot for the base or home

Marbles
Rules
Decide if you are playing for “keepsies” (players keep the marbles they win in the game) or “playing fair” (everyone gets their own marbles back at the end of the game). Draw a circle on the ground. Each player should put an agreed number of marbles in it and stand behind a line drawn some distance away. The aim is to hit the marbles out of the circle. Take turns to roll, throw or flick a marble (called a shooter) into the circle, trying to hit the marbles out of it. If you knock a marble out of the taw you get to keep it. If the shooter stays in the circle, it stays there and it is the next players turn. If it comes out you can fetch it and have another go. Carry on having turns until all the marbles in the circle have been won. The person with the most marbles wins. What you need A hard, flat ground surface Marbles!

Dodge ball
Rules First, divide into two teams. Agree on and mark out the edges of the area in which you are going to play and mark a line down the middle. One team stands on one side of the line, the other team on the other side. One person on one team starts with the ball and must try and throw the ball to hit a player in the other team. After the ball is thrown, the person who gets it carries on the game by throwing and trying to hit another player. What you need

French skipping
Rules This game is also known as Elastics, Chinese skipping or Chinese jump rope. Two people are the “enders” and stand inside the loop of elastic. They stretch the elastic into a rectangle shape by standing with their feet slightly apart. To start with the elastic should be at ankle height. The jumper then has to perform different hops and jumps, jumps in and around and on the elastic. These jumps can be done whilst chanting skipping rhymes or songs. If the jumper is successful in completing the rhyme (and the jumps) the height of the elastic is raised to the knees, then the thighs, then the waist! What you need A hard, flat ground surface A rope made from a piece of elastic or stretchy rope tied together to form a loop about 3 metres long

Stuck in the mud
Rules This game is also known as Freeze tig, Scarecrow tig, Sticky touch and Statues tig. One person is IT and they have to run after the other people and try and touch or tig them. If you are tigged by IT then you have to stand still where you are without moving and with your arms stretched out to the side. IT then tries to tig the other players. If you are stuck, the other players can release you by touching you on the head or running under your outstretched arms and/or legs. If a lot of people are playing, it is better if more than one person is IT.

Grandmother's footsteps
Rules This game is also called Sly fox, Peep behind the curtain or Black pudding. One player is IT and stands at base (a wall or line). IT must have their back to the other players who stand in a line facing IT about 10 metres The players try to sneak up on IT and touch their back without IT turning around and seeing them move. Before IT can ever turn round, they must count to 10 or say a rhyme such as “L-O-N-D-O-N spells London” or “One, two, three, four, five jam tarts”. They can say this quietly, under their breath, so the other players can’t hear and don’t know when IT is about to turn round. When IT turns round, the other players must “freeze”. If IT spots any player moving, they have to go back to the start again.

Capture the flag
Rules This game is also known as Flag raiding, Scotch and English or French and English. First divide into two teams and split the playing space into two halves, with one area for each team. Then choose a base in each area. Next, each player needs a “flag” such as a hat, glove or scarf. Everyone should go and put their flag in the other team’s base and then return to theirs. Each team has to try and get their flags back from the other team’s area without being touched or caught by a player from that team. If you get a flag without being touched you take it back to your base. If you are touched by a member of the other team then you are taken prisoner and must stand still by the other team’s base until you are rescued. Prisoners can only be rescued by a member of their own team touching them but they can’t be caught themselves. Any prisoners must be rescued before any more flags can be retrieved.
