Hello again
Power Tips newsletter, Issue #020
This month we have
INDEX:
One Minute Tip:
3 Questions to Help You Get Out of a Bad Situation Ask yourself the following questions: 1. Is there anything I am doing right now that, if I were starting over today, I wouldn’t get into? 2. Am I involved in a personal or business relationship that, if I had it to do over, I would avoid? 3. Have I made an expenditure of time or money that I would never make again? If your answer is “yes” to any of these questions, ask yourself one more thing: “How do I get out of this situation? And how fast can I do it?” Getting yourself out of just one major thing that is complicating your life can make a dramatic difference. Sometimes overnight. (Source: “Focal Point” by Brian Tracy)

Relationships: One of the Most Vital, Yet Complex Areas of Human Life by Kyle Wilson (excerpted from Week Eighteen of the Jim Rohn One-Year Success Plan)
Welcome to Week Eighteen of the Jim Rohn One-Year Success Plan. We hope you are having a great week and are ready for this week’s journey.
This week we begin our 5th Pillar – Relationships, which is obviously one of the most vital, yet complex areas of human life.
For me this is an especially interesting Pillar/Month because although I understand and appreciate the value and importance of our relationships, it is an area that I have to work on. I think it is related to being a driven, task-oriented entrepreneur, or at least so I’m told. 🙂 Being a dad and husband is not difficult (it is one of the most important parts of my life).
The rewards are obvious, and caring for and providing for my family is part of what drives me. But outside the home is more of a stretch for me. I’m sharing this, because I believe with each month we are all challenged more in certain areas than others.
Currently, a large portion of my work now involves large amounts of time on the computer and doing email. At different times throughout the day I have reminders pop up on my computer and a good 60% are related to the topic of relationships.
The amazing thing is that most of the changes/skills/habits/thoughts/beliefs etc., that I’m encouraged and reminded of, fall under the “free” and “easy” category that we have been touching on the past several weeks and that Jim has always taught.
How free and easy is it to:
Smile at others?
Listen better?
Be friendly?
Be encouraging?
Not judge?
Speaking of not judging, a good friend and strategic coach I know, Jim Sharp, uses as a rule; to stay as neutral as possible when it comes to relating to others, especially when communicating. He says to never make it personal or take it personally, which is solid advice for achieving good, clear communication.
Like Jim says, “Attack the problem, not the person.” Obviously, as with everything, there can be exceptions. But by following this rule you can eliminate much of the negativity that can be created in relationships, which often starts over very trivial comments or events.
For many of you, the “free” and “easy” list above may either come easily or you have already mastered it. But for the rest of us, we will continue to try and make this area of our lives a much needed priority and place to improve.
Jim and Chris have a powerful month lined up for you and will be covering these four parts of relationships.
1. Basics of Healthy Relationships
Let’s embrace the process of change and improvement in our relationships. The results are immediate in many instances and the long-term fruit is inevitable.
Enjoy the Journey!
Kyle

Tips for your Health:Stop Using Your Snooze Alarm During the night, you go through five different stages of sleep — from lighter to deeper. Toward morning, there is an increase in REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Your muscles relax, dreaming occurs, and recent memories are consolidated in your brain. If your REM sleep is cut short, it could impair your mental functioning during the day. And that’s why it’s a very bad idea to delay the start of your day by hitting the “snooze” button on your alarm. Because instead of giving yourself 30, 60, or 90 more minutes of much-needed sleep, what you’re really doing is interfering with your REM sleep and making yourself even more sleep-deprived. According to Dr. Edward Stepanski, who has studied sleep fragmentation at the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, a teeter-totter effect of dozing and waking causes shifts in the brain-wave patterns. “Even a subtle noise that doesn’t actually wake you up is disruptive enough to affect the sleep quality,” Dr. Stepanski said. ”That’s why someone who falls asleep with the TV on may wake up exhausted. So, if a person is rousing themselves enough to reset a clock, there’s likely to be an even more profound effect.” (Source: Martica Heaner, writing in The New York Times) Tips for Better Sleeping Every Night, Plus Two Bonus Free Books to Download

Tips for your Prosperity:
Attitude Versus Aptitude by Brian Tracy
Use the 80/20 Rule
The 80/20 rule is as applicable to individual salespeople as it is to a large sales force. Fully eighty percent of your success as a salesperson will be determined by your attitude and only twenty percent by your aptitude. Some people feel that attitude is ninety percent of success in all human endeavors involving other people, but we can quite comfortably use eighty percent as a figure for the purposes of this article.
Develop a Positive Attitude
A positive mental attitude, or a constructive and optimistic way of looking at yourself and your work, goes hand in hand with sales success in every field and in every market. The development of this unshakable attitude of cheerfulness and enthusiasm is your springboard to greatness as a salesperson, no matter what is going on around you.
Learn Your Product Well
The twenty percent of sales effectiveness that comes from product knowledge and professional selling skills is terribly important as well. It is only when you are thoroughly knowledgeable about what you are selling and thoroughly skillful in your ability to present it effectively that you develop the calmness and confidence upon which a positive mental attitude depends.
Upgrade the Quality of Your Thinking
The quality of your thinking determines the quality of your life. If you improve the quality of your thinking, in any area, you improve the quality of your life in that area. By using your mind, your ability to think, you become a creator of circumstances rather than a creature of circumstances. You move from being powerless to being powerful. You determine everything that happens to you by the way you think about it, in advance. You may not be what you think you are, but what you think, you are!
Change Your Inner Attitudes of Mind
The most rapid and positive changes in your personality and your sales results come about when you change your thinking about yourself and your possibilities. When you reprogram your subconscious mind so you feel a sense of unshakable optimism and self-confidence, every part of your life begins improving immediately. As William James of Harvard wrote in 1905, “The greatest revolution of my generation is the discovery that individuals, by changing their inner attitudes of mind, can change the outer aspects of their lives.”
Expect the Best
The very best salespeople have an attitude of calm, confident, positive self-expectation. They feel good about themselves and they have absolute faith that everything they are doing is contributing toward their inevitable success. They are cool, relaxed, happy and cheerful about their lives and their careers. They know, deep in their hearts, that they are good at what they do, and their customers know it as well.
Often, their customers decide to buy from them even before they’ve made a sales presentation or described their product or service. They are the champions, or superstars, of selling everywhere, and you can be one of them by developing the same attitudes and attributes that they have.
Action Exercises First, resolve today to develop and cultivate an attitude of calm, confident, positive expectations towards yourself, your customers and your career. Expect the best!
Second, take complete control of your thinking and concentrate on the solution rather than the problem. Look for the good in every situation. Be positive and cheerful, no matter what happens.

Address your targeted audience on your business site. Example: “Welcome Internet Marketers”. If you have more than one, address them all. 2. Make sure your content and graphics are relevant to your web site’s theme. You wouldn’t want to use a bird graphic on a business web site. 3. Alert visitors by email when you add new content to your web site. This will remind people to revisit your web site. 4. Offer a way for visitors to contact you on each web page. List your email address, fax number and phone number. 5. Give people the option of viewing your web site offline. Offer it by autoresponder or printer friendly version. 6. Make sure a least 50% of your content is original. The other option is to offer something else original other than content, like software or an online utility. 7. Offer your visitors incentives for revisiting your web site. You could give them new content, ebooks, software, ezine, etc. 8. Publish a FAQs for your business, product and web site. They could have questions about multiple parts of your business. 9. Make sure all links on the navigational bar are clickable. If people can’t get to where they want to go, they will leave. 10. Organize you web site in logical and profitable sequence. You don’t want to give a freebie before they learn about the product(s) you’re selling.
