One Minute Tip:

To be happy is relatively easy; just decide to be a happy person.

Abraham Lincoln observed that most people for most of the time can choose how happy or stressed, how relaxed or troubled, how bright or dull their outlook to be. The choice is simple really, choose to be happy.

There are several ways by which you can do this.

Being grateful is a great attitude. We have so much to be thankful for. Thank the taxi driver for bringing you home safely, thank the cook for a wonderful dinner and thank the guy who cleans your windows. Also thank the mailman for bringing you your mails, thank the policeman for making your place safe and thank God for being alive.

News is stressful. Get less of it. Some people just can’t start their day without their daily dose of news. Try and think about it, 99% of the news we hear or read is bad news. Starting the day with bad news does not seem to be a sensible thing to do.

A religious connection is also recommended. Being part of a religious group with its singing, sacraments, chanting, prayers and meditations foster inner peace.

Manage your time. Time is invaluable and too important to waste. Time management can be viewed as a list of rules that involves scheduling, setting goals, planning, creating lists of things to do and prioritizing. These are the core basics of time management that should be understood to develop an efficient personal time management skill. These basic skills can be fine tuned further to include the finer points of each skill that can give you that extra reserve to make the results you desire.

Laugh and laugh heartily everyday. Heard a good joke? Tell your friends or family about it. As they also say -‘Laughter is the best medicine’.

Express your feelings, affections, friendship and passion to people around you. They will most likely reciprocate your actions. Try not to keep pent up anger of frustrations, this is bad for your health. Instead find ways of expressing them in a way that will not cause more injury or hurt to anyone.

Working hard brings tremendous personal satisfaction. It gives a feeling of being competent in finishing our tasks. Accomplishments are necessary for all of us, they give us a sense of value. Work on things that you feel worthy of your time.

Learning is a joyful exercise. Try and learn something new everyday. Learning also makes us expand and broaden our horizons. And could also give us more opportunities in the future.

Run, jog, walk and do other things that your body was made for. Feel alive.

Avoid exposure to negative elements like loud noises, toxins and hazardous places.

These are the few simple things you can do everyday to be happy.

Power Quotes:

”People facing death don’t think about what degrees they have earned, what positions they have held, or how much wealth they have accumulated. At the end, what really matters is whom you love and who loved you.”
- Bernadine Healy, MD

”When meditation is mastered, the mind is unwavering like the flame of a lamp in a windless place.”
– Bhagavad Gita

People are eternally divided into two classes, the believer, builder, and praiser, and the unbeliever, destroyer and critic.
– John Ruskin

Tips for your Happiness:

Learn How to Succeed by Thinking like a Genius

You don’t have to be a certified genius to think like one.

When you learn how to think like a genius, you’ll soon reap the kind of rewards that used to be exclusive for people ten times more creative and smarter than you.

Start Thinking Out of the Box
Don’t allow yourself to be limited and restricted by traditions and conventions!

You should always tell yourself that you can do something that’s not expected. Although people who think out of the box are usually those with definite artistic talents, working in a regular office doesn’t mean you can’t let your creative juices flow. Just persist in proving your critics wrong and you’ll stay on the right track.

Have a Strong Dose of Confidence in Yourself
Geniuses aren’t all arrogant or conceited, but they do have a healthy dose of self-confidence. They know what they want, they know what they can do, and they know what they should do. They don’t let anything stop them from reaching their goals if they know they deserve it.

Have a Realistic Goal
At the same time, geniuses are smart enough not to reach for the moon – figuratively speaking, that is.

All their goals are SMART – specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound. Their goals may not be smart for others, but they definitely believe that it’s smart for them, and in most cases, that’s all that counts.

Maximize the Power of Visualization
Many people wonder how geniuses were able to create or invent such wonderful products or services. The answer to this is simple: they have powerful visualization skills. They can picture in their minds what they wish to happen in the future. As time passes by, the picture becomes clearer and sharper until it becomes reality.

If you want to succeed in life, you need to think like a genius and that includes being able to see in your mind where you want to be in the future.

Use Self-Affirmation
Reminding yourself about your goals, talents, skills, and abilities will strengthen your resolve in achieving your goals. Geniuses are smart enough to recognize the importance of motivation and inspiration and the role it plays in one’s life. If you wish to be as successful as most geniuses are, you need to remind yourself constantly that you deserve and are capable of obtaining such success.

Don’t Be Afraid to Take Risks
Geniuses are rarely afraid to take risks because they know that taking risks is usually the only way for people to make new discoveries and take advantage of new opportunities. Of course, being willing to take risks doesn’t mean you should take all sorts of risks without thinking the matter completely.

Use both facts and intuition to analyze if the risk you’re about to take is sensible.

Don’t Stop Asking
Lastly, it’s important that you don’t stop asking questions. Geniuses are the way they are because they’re eager to learn things all the time. If you want to find out the same things they know, you need to question incessantly about everything.

Learning how to think like a genius and making a conscious effort to do so at all times will not only give you the rewards you desire but also cause you to become one yourself in time. Nothing in this world is impossible and that’s something only geniuses understand and believe in!

Tips for your Health:

Combating Stress the Right Way

One of the most stressful period in history that mankind has ever encountered is the 21st century. Have you ever wondered why the spa and wellness business is now fast booming? People want to relax and soothe their worn-out body and drained mind.

To be fair, not all stress is bad because scientists believe that considerable amount of stress prepares you for the challenges you may encounter during the day. Now we know that too much of something is harmful so learn to tame and control stress before it takes control of you.

Take a deep breath and say this to yourself ten times “everything will be fine.” After this, clear your mind from all the cobwebs and focus on what needs to be done. Cramming for an exam the next day or minding your office mates who couldn’t care less but to dig into their office mate’s private lives won’t help. Learn to detach yourself from the noises and stressful situations surrounding you.

Stop pushing yourself.
Trying too hard to make both ends meet is not a good practice at all. If you feel worn out already, take a break. Since when did resting become a crime? Pushing yourself to the limits will only harm your health. Do yourself a favor, give your body and mind some slack. Get a good sleep because lack of sleep just aggravates stress.

All people make mistakes.
“Nobody’s perfect.” Why agonize and blame yourself for everything even bad weather? Remember that you can’t please everyone and it is alright to commit mistakes once in a while. You don’t have to control everything because things will happen anyway if they really meant to happen.

Find a new hobby or pastime to de-stress.
Find an avenue where you can divert your attention into something else than yourself. Go to a community gathering, learn a new hobby, pamper yourself in a spa or find time to go to the gym to tone your body. Whatever it is that makes you feel good, do it. Who cares if you’re on a saving mode? Buying that dress or a pair of shoes you have been eyeing for weeks won’t hurt one in a while.

Be realistic.
Being flexible and multitasking is not bad but carrying the whole burden on your shoulders by accepting responsibilities left and right is too much. Don’t commit yourself to things you aren’t sure you can do or you really don’t want to do in the first place. This will affect your performance and the turn out of the project, even make it a failure. Learn how to say no – gracefully – when you have too much work on your plate.

Live one day at a time.
Quit thinking of tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, next week or next year. Take time to smell the flowers and enjoy life. Life is too short not to enjoy. I’m not saying that you disregard your future but obsessing about it and tormenting yourself thinking on what will transpire tomorrow misses your chance to enjoy the present. Spontaneity is the key to living a healthy and stress free life. You wouldn’t want to age early, right? Taking time off from time to time actually makes you more productive.

Stay Active and Live Longer

Get up off the couch – and add years to your life. A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows that you can reduce your risk of death by 50 percent, just by staying active as you age. Even walking for 15 to 20 minutes once or twice a day helps. The added challenge to your heart and lungs will extend your “healthspan” even further.

Researchers in the study followed 302 men and women ages 70 to 82 for six years. The mortality rate was 12 percent for the active group, compared to 24 percent for the less-active group. Not surprisingly, the active group climbed more stairs than their sedentary counterparts. Most striking was the revelation that many of the health benefits enjoyed by these seniors were the result of simply continuing to do ordinary daily chores as they aged – like gardening, grocery shopping, and washing the dishes.

Money Wisdom between Engaged Couples: How to Manage Spending Habits

Are you one of those engaged couples who do not usually discuss money matters before they get married?

If you cannot discuss financial matters with a loved with before tying the knot, it is almost inevitable that you will have problems related to money while you are married.

It is not the amount of money that you have that matters but what you intend to do with it and how you manage it.

Perhaps an inheritance could set you up for life until you retire. But, nothing is sure in this world and all of that could just as easily be lost with mismanagement. Here are some questions that you should immediately address to help you achieve a blissful marriage:

How do you look at money?
The family environment you grew up in usually dictates how you view money. During the courtship period, your real personalities may not be immediately obvious to each other because you are showing your best sides.

Still, ask your partner on their idea of success or the role of money in that success. If incompatibilities exist, you will have a better understanding of how to accept each other or agree on how you can overcome your differences.

Who will pay for the wedding?
The groom’s family normally pays for the wedding. However, given the hard times today, the best solution is for the couple to pay for everything equally. The families of both the groom and the bride can give whatever monetary gift they can afford and the couple can decide how much of these gifts will be allotted for the wedding.

Couples are not encouraged to spend too much for their wedding day. It is only one day and you have the rest of your lives together. Do not throw a grand celebration if you cannot afford it.

What would your lifestyle be like?
Understand how much money you both have and how much debt you each owe. If there is a debt, agree on how you plan to pay it. Be open about how much each of you earn and what you expect to be spending as a married couple. Do not leave the decision of what to spend on a day-to-day basis. This could lead to unnecessary misunderstandings.

Who will manage the money?
Even if a couple’s financial well-being is a joint understanding, one of you has to be responsible for staying within agreed budgets; informing the other when there is any possible deviation foreseen.

You also have to keep track of all important documents and records. Both of you should make decisions on insurance, investments, and income tax return filings. Of course, you should do this in consultation with experts.

One of you also has to be responsible for properly maintaining and balancing all bank accounts to prevent penalties and not allow money to become idle without earning any interest.

How often will you talk about money issues?
Differences are inevitable. Work on a program of continuing discussion and communication with an open mind and sincere heart. Bring in an objective and experienced financial adviser if your differences seem major. This is the key to a long-term financial compatibility and a happy marriage.

Persuade People and Earn Higher

There are four big principles that one must memorize in order to increase his sales by as much as 300% or even more.

Principle # 1 – Call your customer by his name.

People feel more comfortable when you call them by their names. If your target customer is a complete stranger, ask him politely about his name. Pronounce his name correctly and mention it throughout your conversation. This way you can get his attention and make him listen.

Principle # 2 – Make your customer feel the need.

Let me give you a simple demonstration of this principle:

Marveling at a certain employee’s ability to sell toothbrushes, the head of the sales department decided to follow him around one day.

He observed that this particular salesman choose a busy street corner on which to set up an array of toothbrushes and a small bowl of brownish stuff surrounded by chips.

The salesman would then select a likely customer and announce, “Good morning! We’re introducing Nifty Chip Dip — would you like a free sample?”

Tasting the dip, the bystander would invariably spit it out in disgust and howl, “It tastes like s***!”

“It is,” the salesman would inform them calmly. “Care to buy a toothbrush?”

Funny it might seem, but this joke gives an example of how you can make your customer need (not only want) the product you are selling. However, in the actual scene, you cannot use this kind of strategy to close a deal with people; otherwise you will go home badly beaten or end up in jail.

In reality, you must make your sales presentation as clean and as professional as possible. Persuade your customer that the product you are offering is of great importance to him. (Note that I used the word offering instead of selling because offering denotes something, which is more advantageous on the side of the customer than of the seller.)

Principle # 3 – Make it seem that you are helping the customer, not selling something to him.

Is this possible? Yes, of course. It is so simple, please read on:

You: Mr. Farmington, I understand that you are spending too much on your electric bills and I presume that the air-conditioning unit that you are using does not have an energy-saving device. That’s bad, but I can help you make your bill lower by as much as 50%. Here, you can have our Gold energy-saving device. You can save hundreds of dollars every year for only $20 dollars as one time payment.

Mr. Farmington: Oh! That’s great. Please give me one of those. Here is the $20 dollars. Thanks a lot.

Principle # 4 – Never take no for an answer.

Considering the real world however, it is not that easy to close a deal. If things like that happen, remember the fourth principle and be assertive.

Learn to overcome objections and always state your sentences in the positive way. Do not stop talking because when you stop talking, you will lose your customer, please read on:

Mr. Farmington: Thanks for the offer, but I might not need that because I’m planning to buy a new air-conditioning unit, which is exactly the same as my old one and it goes with a free energy-saving device.

You: But Mr. Farmington, if your old air-conditioning unit still works, you can save by just buying an energy-saving device. Compare the price of the new air-conditioning unit with your old one. You will notice that the new unit is a bit more expensive, considering that both the old and the new unit have the same brand and features. Except, of course, the free energy-saving device that goes with the new one. It seems that you will also pay for the energy-saving device.

Mr. Farmington here is our Gold energy-saving device. You’ll be glad you decided to buy that. For just $20 dollars you’ll be able to save hundreds. (In here you are assertive, you assume that the customer has agreed with the sale.)

Mr. Farmington: Ok. I think you are right. I’ll get one of those. Here is the $20.

See? You were able to close the deal. “If you don’t sell, it’s not the product that’s wrong, it’s you.” — Estée Lauder

Friendship Between Women:

A woman didn’t come home one night. The next day she told her husband that she had slept over at a girlfriend’s house.

The man called his wife’s 10 best friends.

They all denied knowing anything about it.

Friendship Between Men:

A man didn’t come home one night. The next day he told his wife that he had slept over at a buddy’s house.

The woman called her husband’s 10 best friends.

Eight of them confirmed that he had slept over, and two even claimed that he was still there!

This classic tale which reminds me of the fables my Grandfather told me, when I was 5 years old and still lived in Denmark, as I sat on his lap and begged him for yet another rendition of “Little Red Riding Hood” or “The fox and the wolf”… so many great morals, and what a great way to “teach” our kids how to best live a life of value and fulfilment.

Make sure you share this story with your kids or Grandkids… – Helene

How true is this?…

Mouse Story… a message.

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

“What food might this contain?” The mouse wondered – he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning.

”There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, “Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.”

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The pig sympathized, but said, “I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers.”

The mouse turned to the cow and said “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The cow said, “Wow, Mr. Mouse. I’m sorry for you, but it’s no skin off my nose.”

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer’s mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house — like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The farmer’s wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught.

The snake bit the farmer’s wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup’s main ingredient.

But his wife’s sickness continued, so friends and neighbours came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.

The farmer’s wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn’t concern you, remember — when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.

We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

One of the best things to hold onto in this world is a friend.
