THE POWER OF SELF-IMAGE

Visualizing yourself as a success in your field of endeavor is the inside tip in accomplishing anything you want. If you can specifically imagine being the person you want to become, you will attain that reality.

Forgive yourself. Just as you would another person, tell yourself that it’s okay for all those mistakes, or the should-haves that keep popping up in your mind. Don’t dwell on the past and get blocked by events from long ago.

Let go of fears and anxieties. Although it certainly is easier said than done, learn to change negative thoughts into a positive action. Are you afraid of poverty – that you’ll never make ends meet, or never buy that house, or be destitute once you stop working? Then turn that into the positive goal of financial security.

Do people make you anxious? Maybe you feel inferior, not as good as others. Everybody has feelings of inadequacy. Just turn them around into positive goals. You may be paralyzed by the thoughts that you are unattractive. It is your thoughts that make it a reality. Change your modes of behavior and you will make friends.

In most cases, it is your own negative thoughts that cause you to stay stuck in whatever place you’re in. Keep moving. Take the risks. You may need to change your job, or move to another city. You might take up a sport or hobby. Become active in your life – participate. And you will grow into the image you see for yourself.

10 Helpful Tips to Improve Your Self-Esteem

Perhaps one of the most important questions in your mind is how to improve your self-esteem.

It makes no difference whether you pursue it actively or unconsciously, what matters is the effort to work on improving your self-esteem. However, the problem lies on where you want to begin. Seemingly, you are working on the outside indicators.

Here are ten tips on how you can improve your self-esteem:

1. Increase your self-esteem.
Try to come up with a list. What aspects of your self do you really want to change? Work on one aspect at a time. Find out how you are doing before proceeding to another aspect.

2. Be optimistic.
Do not think negatively about where you are right now. Always project self-confidence in where you might end up in the coming days.

3. Set concrete goals in all your dealings.
Write your goals and desires. Consider how people you will be interacting with can help you accomplish your goals. Afterwards make a decision on how you will deal with each person appropriately. Do this regularly and you will see some changes.

4. Be proactive.
Do not wait for things to happen, instead make things happen. Fuel your determination. Let other people know in what aspect they can help you. Success comes to individuals who get down to business.

5. Make each person feel that he is significant.
Eventually, you will see amazing results.

6. Expand your social networks.
Join social clubs or organizations. In effect, more contacts will be added to your list of friends. Social contacts can give you an assurance that you can depend on others in times of crisis.

7. Learn a sport or hobby.
Indulging in sports or hobbies can help improve your self-confidence. Likewise, it can help you maintain good health. Good health leads to a sound body and a healthy mind. A sound body and a healthy mind play a major role in improving your self-esteem.

8. Enroll in self-improvement classes.
If your main problem lies in not knowing where to begin, attending classes or seminars on self-improvement can provide you with step by step knowledge on how to improve your self-esteem. If that proves too burdensome to you, you may also read some books on self-esteem. There are also plenty of CDs and tapes focusing on the topic of self-help that you may want to consider.

9. Have a change in atmosphere.
If the current environment you are living in causes you to have low self-esteem, consider moving to another location. You may also want to do some changes in your current environment. A change in environment can provide you with several benefits. It can add versatility to your personality and more importantly, it can contribute in changing the way you look at your self.

10. Be contented and happy.
Failures and disappointments can result to low self-esteem. When your goals and objectives are not met, chances are you get frustrated and you become negative about your capabilities. Being contented and happy may fuel your determination to succeed. Determination may help in boosting your self-esteem.

Improving self-esteem does not happen in a wink of an eye. It would take a while before you notice some changes happening. The process will go beyond tips and pointers that you read in books or internet. It requires constant practice to see some improvements.

In the end, you will realize that an improved self-esteem will benefit you in all aspects of your life. You will experience change in your relationships with your family, dealings with friends, and more importantly, improvement of yourself.

5 Ways to Improve Your Hearing

Once lost, hearing CANNOT be restored with medicines. In such case, you will need hearing aids to compensate for your lack of hearing. To date, none of the so-called all-natural miracle drugs has been proven to work.

This article will talk about the things you can do to improve your hearing NOW, while it’s still fully functional. Here are five assorted tips and drills you can do to make sure you maintain your hearing ability:

1) Maintenance is important
Avoid loud noises, as these can damage your eardrums. Listening to loud music or with plug-in headphones, as opposed to the foam or rubber types that just nestle on your ears, is a quick way to lose hearing. Being subjected to incredibly loud, shrill, and irritating noises every day, like gunfire at the shooting range, power tools in your neighborhood, or the vocal assaults of an expressive mother-in-law, are all detrimental to your hearing. Avoid them at all cost.

2) Regular EENT checkups
Make sure to add visiting an EENT (eyes, ears, nose, throat) doctor to your list of bi-annual checkups alongside your usual ones, like visits to the dentist and general medical checkups. This helps maintain all your senses, not just hearing. EENTs can give you preventive medications to treat any mild problems you may have with hearing before these worsen.

3) Vitamins and medication
The following four vitamins and medications have been tested and proven to help in the maintenance of hearing. These haven’t been noted to significantly enhance a person’s hearing acuity, but they have been known to prevent the deterioration of hearing ability. These four vitamins, with corresponding dosages, are the following: Acetyl-carnitine (150mg a day), alpa-lipoic acid (150 mg a day), glutathione (50 mg a day), and coenzyme Q10 (60 mg a day).

4) Sound source location exercise
Here is the first drill for sharpening your hearing. This helps your ear’s directional sense and requires a partner. Buy some small noisemaker like a horn or even a small radio speaker. Go to a large room with very little acoustic bounce off and furniture. If you can do this in an open-air environment so much the better, but you’ll look a bit funny to any passerby so you might want to find a private spot.

Now, the drill is simple. Just have your partner sound off small two or three-second bursts around you, starting at a regular distance. Just point where the noise came from. Limit your choices initially to the eight compass points (including northeast etc). Later on, vary the drill by having you partner alter the distance at which he sounds off. You should not only name directions, but the approximate distance away from where the noise was made.

5) Noise filtering exercise
This is a drill for filtering sound. It’s simple as well. Tune in to a station that plays a moderately fast music. It should not be too loud. Then, talk to a friend. Do NOT raise your voice and carry on a conversation without leaning to hear better. Then after a few minutes, add a second radio playing a different music. Then later throw in a third… you get the picture. This helps you filter out any extraneous noise and improves your ear’s ability to pick out only the sounds you want to hear.

5 Ways to Master Office Politics

Office politics has long been synonymous with gossiping and backstabbing. But the fact of the matter is, you have a choice to engage or not engage in office politics.

Believe it or not, office politics is similar to a game. There are hard and fast rules. Unfortunately, there are no magical ways to remove office politics.

However, there are ways to minimize office politics. There really are ways to keep the office environment light, friendly, as well as harmless.

The following are ways to master office politics:

Talk with office people
Work is about work and that is a fact. However, people make the work possible. An impersonal work environment actually breeds resentment and dissatisfaction.

As much as possible, it is always a good idea to talk to your fellow co-workers. E-mail communication is for those who are not in the office.

Talking to people suggests an idea that you are making an effort to talk and communicate.

Take note that isolation is one of the great methods for you to be overlooked by the powers-that-be in the office. When you simply refuse to take part in the workplace, you could possibly be setting yourself up to be a gossip subject or a scapegoat of office trivial issues.

So try not to become a lonely outsider. Practice the art of effective communication.

Say goodbye to gossip
It is always tempting to gossip, as well as to listen on it. However, the best way to keep your cool is to zipper your mouth.

Think about it, would you prefer your name being circulated as the person who revealed the dirt on a co-worker or the one who likes to tell somebody’s secret?

If have a grudge towards a specific person, it is not advisable to smear his reputation.

As much as possible, do not take sides. A divided workplace is a breeding ground for low productivity and morale.

Try not to complain
Complaining is irrelevant, especially if it is not followed up by a constructive suggestion.

Like a bad habit, complaints drag everyone’s mood. Bosses prefer those who solve problems and not just seek them.

If you cannot solve a problem, try not to be a part of the problem.

Keep the peace
During rough moments, act as a peacekeeper. Try to remain objective. Decide base on facts and information available to you.

If there is a worker who is particularly out for vengeance or blood, try to approach that person and politely ask his concerns.

Try to help in finding the solution and not inflame them.

Look way ahead
Business is fast and deadlines are a lot faster. It is easy therefore to see work as an endless series of outputs with no meaningful finish.

Take note that this is a trap. Be optimistic. Try to tell yourself that this too shall pass.

All in all, office politics is there but it is still your choice whether you would allow it to rule your work life. The decision is yours.

Birthday wishes….

A man asked his wife what she’d like for her birthday.

“I’d love to be six again,” she replied.

On the morning of her birthday, he got her up bright and early and off they went to a local theme park. What a day! He put her on every ride in the park: the Death Slide, the Screaming Loop, the Wall of Fear – everything there was! Wow!

Five hours later she staggered out of the theme park, her head reeling and her stomach upside down. Right to a McDonald’s they went, where her husband ordered her a Big Mac along with extra fries and a refreshing chocolate shake.

Then it was off to a movie – the latest Star Wars epic, and hot dogs, popcorn, Pepsi Cola and M&Ms. What a fabulous adventure!

Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed. He leaned over and lovingly asked,

“Well, dear, what was it like being six again?”

One eye opened. “You idiot, I meant my dress size.”

……………..

The moral of this story is: If a woman speaks and a man is actually listening, he will still get it wrong.
