One Minute Tip:

Everything in life has some risk. High achievers take lots of risks! Get in the game, play smart, be good at what you do, and plan to win.

I love the fact that Babe Ruth, the “home run king” was also the “strike-out king!” He was in the game and he came to play. Often he struck out, but he kept on swinging and we all know the end of the story

Power Quotes:

Happiness:

”If you are never scared, embarrassed, or hurt, it means you never take chances.”
– Julia Soul

Health:

”In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.”

Prosperity:

”In each of us are places where we have never gone. Only by pressing the limits do you ever find them.”
– Dr Joyce Brothers

Tips for your Happiness:

A good question is worth a thousand pieces of casual advice. A great question can instantly transform our lives and launch us in a whole new direction. In almost any area of life, if you are not getting the results you want, try asking different, better, questions. I think you’ll like the results

Asking ourselves, “Why can’t I ever save for the future?” causes the brain to give us a list of expenses and habits that spend all our income. Asking a better question like, ”I wonder how I could reduce expenses by $100 this month?” leads to a completely different set of answers and potential solutions.

Whenever you find yourself stuck, particularly if you are repeating a pattern and want to change it, try asking yourself some new (and better) questions. Here are a few I use regularly:

1. What is the most important thing I can do today?

2. Since I don’t seem to know how to do this, I wonder who might know the answer? Who can I call for help?

3. Even though I can’t do it all today, what step can I take to get started right away?

4. Who could coach me, or teach me, about this?

5. Since what I’m doing isn’t working, what other methods could I try? What other strategy might give me a better approach?

A good question is worth a thousand pieces of casual advice. A great question can instantly transform our lives and launch us in a whole new direction. In almost any area of life, if you are not getting the results you want, try asking different, better, questions. I think you’ll like the results.

Getting out of the Dark: How to Avoid being Pessimistic

Our lives are an endless cycle of happiness and sadness, and this is a reality we all must face. By hoping for the best and expecting the worst, we are being realistic; but if you concentrate on expecting the worst, and if you constantly and visibly avoid every shred of hope, then you are being pessimistic. Laugh, and the world laughs with you; cry, and you cry alone.

In other words, we are all going through the same cycles of happiness and sadness, so you aren’t alone in experiencing the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. And because everyone has their own tragedies to deal with, you can’t afford to ruin their day and be sad yourself! Avoid being pessimistic by following these tips.

– Stay away from anything that might induce you to feel sad. If you are easily drawn to tears by sad movies, depressed by sad books, or brought to the point of bawling outright by the slightest sentimentality, then you can do one of two things. You can either stay away from any depressing stimulus, or you can actively seek out something that will make you happy and neutralize the sadness.

One of the keys to losing your pessimism is to losing the sadness in your life. You have to avoid being sad. Stay happy and smile! Make the most of any sadness, because the happy ending might come for you soon. All you need to do is wait.

– Write a daily gratitude journal. Take an ordinary notebook, and make a habit of sitting down at a regular time each day to write five things that you are grateful for. List concrete things: the ability to still breathe, a nice gift you received from a friend, or a nice morning filled with sunshine are just a few examples of things you can be grateful for. A gratitude journal will allow you to see the good in your life more clearly.

– Talk to optimistic people, and stay away from gloomy people. Sure, your gloomy friend have an interesting gothic life, but how long can you stay friends? If you feel drained and tired after talking to a friend, then you might be in need of people to perk you up and make you feel better about yourself.

– Be spiritual. Find a way to connect with the Almighty, and you can certainly find a real Someone to thank for every blessing you receive.

How To Deal With Awkward Silences

by Peter Murphy

There are three fool-proof ways to handle those moments of silence that can make you feel self-conscious and uneasy:

1. Decide that conversation is a two way street

Whenever you are talking to someone and the conversation grinds to a halt. Remember this…

A good conversation requires input from at least two people. And this means that it is not up to you alone to fix things if the dialogue fades away to nothing.

Take the pressure off yourself to be the one to make everything right.

Pause and let the other person speak first. Give others the opportunity to get things started again.

Very often the other person will resume the conversation as long as you look interested in hearing more.

You can do this by being attentive and by demonstrating your interest through your body language.

It is a good idea to keep facing the other person and to keep the non verbal rapport alive by mirroring.

2. Decide if you want to use this silence as a way to finish the conversation.

Does the other person want to mention anything else?

Is there anything to add?

Ask the other person these questions. This will ensure a quick response and may reinvigorate the conversation.

Otherwise.

If the chat has come to a natural conclusion then take control and wrap it up. You do not always have to wait and let the other person decide if the conversation is over.

You can simply thank the other person for talking to you and wish them well until you meet again.

When you get into the habit of doing this you will feel more confident talking to people.

Why?

Because the fear of standing there with nothing to say will not bother you so much…

In the future you will have the option of ending the conversation instead of waiting for the other people to take charge of the situation.

Finishing the conversation is a great way to put an end to awkward silences. Obviously you will only do this AFTER you have covered what needs to be discussed.

3. Always have a back up plan

Like I have said in the past. Adequate planning is one of the secrets to always having something to say to people.

Nobody ever said you cannot prepare in advance by having a stock pile of interesting stories to talk about. In fact this is what Presidents do.

They have speech writers prepare off the cuff remarks which are meant to appear spontaneous. Of course each statement is planned and rehearsed.

When you have a whole range of topics you can talk about it becomes very difficult to get stuck for words.

And you will find that the issues and topics that work best will work for most people you talk to. If a particular topic works very well for a few people it will probably work just as well for most people you meet.

When I tell jokes for example. I always start by telling the new ones to my best friends. If they go down well and everyone laughs I will use those jokes again with people I don´t know very well and when I meet new people.

You can test jokes, conversation topics and personal stories and pay attention to see which ones get the best response.

Then drop the ones few people like and keep using the popular ones.

There is no need to be original!

What else can you do?

Go to the bonus reports that come with my book and…

Review the How to Start a Great Conversation with Anyone report. Then start using the 15 great distinctions that will make your conversations sing.

Have Fun,

Tips for your Health:

Can Muscles Help You Live Longer?

You already know that muscles can help you look better. But you might not know that there is a direct relationship between muscle mass and the strength of your immune system. White blood cells and antibodies, the foundation of your immune system, are both made from protein. And when you have well-developed muscles, you have a ready supply of protein to make these antibodies and cells. That’s why strength training is so important, especially as we age (when muscle mass naturally decreases).

Studies have shown that the number of natural killer cells (a specific type of white blood cell) is directly proportional to muscle mass in the older population.

Emotional Healing Through Art Therapy and Grief Counseling

By Tess Thompson

Forgetting a loss may not be possible in some cases especially when it involves the death of a loved one. Many times the grief that one experiences is so intense that despite conscious efforts for its resolution people find it difficult to come to terms with a changed life. Contrary to the general belief, emotional healing from grief is not about forgetting the loss. Grief is actually about gaining a positive mental attitude and remembering the deceased with fond memories and less pain.

There are many theories of grief, the series of emotions that people may go through while grieving and the various ways and means of managing emotions . A grieving person experiences overwhelming emotions that may be difficult for some to manage on their own. In most cases, family support is seldom available given the nuclear family structures that are now prevalent in most societies.

Unresolved grief can lead to depression, low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts or physical ailments. Grief counseling, in such cases, provides a welcome help to a grieving individual to restore emotional wellness .

There are many tools available to grief counselors including patient listening, subtle suggestions, group activities and much more. Recently grief counselors and psychiatrists are relying more on non-verbal therapeutic tools like ‘art’ and ‘guided visualization’ to help participants overcome grief. Whether as a group activity or on individual basis, art therapy that includes drawing and other art forms provides a handy mode of giving expression to feelings that may be otherwise difficult to put to words.

The basic approach of grief counseling is to aid in the grieving person in:

─ Accepting the loss.
─ Identifying the feeling and expressing it in some form.
─ Realizing that grief is a normal human reaction and depends upon individual personality.
─ Understanding that there is no right or wrong manner of grieving and that the process is fairly individualistic.
─ Understanding coping skills like meditation and relaxation techniques.
─ Relocating to enable smoother re-entry in the mainstream. The use of art therapy as a method of expression is a relatively new therapy. There has been significant research to explore the uses of art as a means of self expression during mourning.

The underlying theoretical explanation regarding its use is that art was initially used by humans to alleviate feelings of anxiety, fear, crisis and threat to life. Visual imagery used by ancient civilization to mark events like death gives credence to this theory. Despite evolution of language to its present heights there is still a dearth of words that can be used to express the variety of thoughts and emotions that humans experience during grief. And expression is basic to promoting emotional wellness.

Regardless of the credibility of the theory behind it, art does help humans in coping with trauma caused by death. To be able to accept a loss by identification of emotions in absence of words, art is the next best mode of expression.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) was originally designed to reduce the psychotherapy process from months and years down to minutes and hours.

From there it was discovered that astonishing physical healings also occurred. Symptoms faded for everything from Migraine Headaches to Cancer.

Complete details are given on the EFT website at www.emofree.com It often works where nothing else will.

What is Acne Vulgaris?

There are many different types of blemishes that you can get on your face. They are all generally called acne but when it comes to treatment, it is important to know exactly what is going on with your skin.

The most common type of acne is Acne Vulgaris which literally means ‘common acne.’ This type of acne can cause blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. Acne vulgaris is a common facial rash occurring in adolescence and rarely in early and mid-adult life. The cause is multifactorial but the blockage of pilosebaceous units with surrounding inflammation is the main pathological process and this can occur because of a number of different factors.

HealthNutritionOnline

There are many factors that contribute to acne. Keratin is a protein that is produced by the skin cells, and too much of it can form clumps that block oil ducts. When this happens, bacteria can form, causing a pimple.

Some dermatologists believe that people with frequent outbreaks may produce a drier oil than normal, which makes them susceptible to getting clogged pores.

If you are experiencing a problem with Acne Vulgaris, there are many treatment options available that could clear your skin right up, including a wide range of natural home remedies listed below.

Signs & Symptoms

Acne is characterized by the presence of comedones or blackheads, pimples, small superficial sebaceous cysts and scars. There are over half a dozen forms of acne. All of them are concerned with sebaceous glands or the glands connected with hair follicles.

Acne presents in areas rich in sebaceous glands such as the face, back and sternal area. The three cardinal features are:

• open comedones (blackheads)
• closed comedones (whiteheads)
• inflammatory papules
• pustules
The skin may be very greasy (seborrhoea). Rupture of the inflamed lesions may lead to deep-seated dermal inflammation and nodulocystic lesions, which are more likely to cause facial scarring.

A premenstrual exacerbation of acne is sometimes noticed. There is a tendency for spontaneous improvement over a number of years but acne can persist unabated into adult life.

Types of Acne Vulgaris

The most common form of acne is blackheads. The areas chiefly affected are the forehead, temples, cheeks, and chin, the chest and back. In rare cases, almost the entire body may be covered with black heads with extensive scarring.

This occurs when the plugged hair follicle stays beneath the surface of the skin, and appears on the skin as a small whiteish bump.

An open comedo, or blackhead, occurs when the plug enlarges and pushes through the surface of the skin. Its dark appearance is not due to dirt, but rather to a build up of the dark pigment of the skin called melanin. Blackheads are also a type of inflammatory Acne Vulgaris.

The mildest form of inflammatory acne is a papule, a small, firm, pink bump appearing on the surface of the skin. These bumps can be tender to the touch, and are often considered an intermediary step between non-inflammatory and inflammatory acne.

Pustules are like papules in that they are small, round lesions. Unlike papules, pustules are clearly inflamed and visibly contain pus. They may appear red at the base with a yellowish or whiteish center. Pustules do not generally contain a great deal of bacteria, but are inflamed due to chemical irritation from sebum components.

Infantile acne
Facial acne is occasionally seen in infants and is sometimes cystic. It is thought to be due to the influence of maternal androgens and resolves spontaneously.

Steroid acne
Acne may occur secondary to corticosteroid therapy or Cushing’s syndrome. Comedones and cysts are rare in this variant but involvement of the back and shoulders (rather than the face) is common. Clinically the rash often appears as a pustular folliculitis.

Oil acne
This is an industrial disease seen in workers who have prolonged contact with oils or other hydrocarbons and is common on the legs and other exposure sites.

Acne fulminans
This is a rare variant seen most commonly in young male adolescents. Severe necrotic and crusted acne lesions appear, associated with malaise, pyrexia, arthralgia and bone pain (due to sterile bone cysts). It requires urgent treatment with oral prednisolone (30-40 mg daily) and analgesics followed by a course of oral isotretinoin.

Follicular occlusion triad

This is a rare disorder most commonly seen in black Africans. It is characterized by the presence of severe nodulocystic acne, dissecting cellulitis of the scalp and hidradenitis suppurativa.

It has been suggested that this is caused by a problem of follicular occlusion rather than having an infective aetiology.

Nodular or cystic acne is usually very painful. Nodules are inflamed pus-filled lesions lodged deep within the skin. They develop when the contents of a comedo has spilled into the surrounding skin and immune system responds, producing pus. The most severe form of this type of Acne may persist for weeks or even months, eventually hardening into a cyst. Both nodules and cysts often leave deep scars.

Acne conglobata, a rare form of inflammatory acne, forms primarily on the back, buttocks, and chest. It is characterized by pustules and nodules, and severe bacterial infection may ensue.

Acne cosmetica is a relatively mild form of acne caused from topical cosmetic products. It is characterized by small pink bumps, and local inflammation on the cheek, chin, and forehead. It may develop over the course of a few weeks or months, but usually does not cause scarring. Since it can persist indefinitely, it is important to find out which topical products are causing the problem and eliminate their use.

Who is prone to Acne Vulgaris?

All of us are prone to getting zits at some stage of our lives, especially during puberty. There are many people who are prone through all stages of their lives to get Acne Vulgaris.

Tips for your Prosperity:

Have you crafted your elevator speech?

It’s a tool used by entrepreneurs to pitch start-ups when they run into a venture capitalist: the 15-second speech.

The phenomenon in the corporate world is now called the “elevator speech.” Self-help promoters say people who want to stand out should have a 15-second self-promo at hand, just in case they find themselves face-to-face with the boss. The speeches work in elevators, at networking events, and with people and companies pitching ideas or products. (Even single people are coming up with a quick catchy introduction, according to Business Week.)

Corporate trainers report a surge in interest. They advise people to hit hard on the value of what they do. Business Week’s example: “Hi, I’m Claude Monet of software. My masterpieces are written with zeros and ones.” After the speech, the speakers actually introduce themselves.

Should You Start Your Own Business?

Are you unsatisfied with your current job? If you are, you may be interested in changing employers. While it is more than possible for you to find, apply for, and be awarded a new job, did you know that is not your only option?

Have you ever thought about starting your own business? If this is a thought that has yet to cross your mind, you may want give starting your own business some serious consideration.

As nice as it is to hear that you should examine starting your own business, you may be curious as to which points you should take the time to examine.

If you are serious about starting your own business or at least learning if running your own business is something that you are capable of doing, you will want to continue reading on. A few important points that should be taken into consideration by those who are interested in leaving the traditional workplace to start a business are outlined below.

One of the many points that you will want to take into consideration, when looking to start your own business, is the startup costs associated with doing so. Whether you would like to open up a gift shop or if you would like to sell your professional writing services, it is likely that you will need to make some startup purchases. The startup costs associated with starting your own business will all depend on the opportunities that you choose.

Although there is likely to be some variance, it is likely that you will need to purchase a computer, internet service, a business phone, business phone service, a fax machine, a copier, an office desk, and other office furniture. If you have an ideal credit score, you may be able to receive financial assistance to get your business up and running.

Another factor that you need to take into consideration, when looking to determine if you should leave your current job and start your own business is time. Should you be interested in starting your own business, it is important to remember that you will likely not see success right away.

Many businesses, no matter what the type, take time to see profits and success. You have to market your business to the general public, set up your online website or your storefront location, and do so much more.

That is why it is important that you not only have enough money to get your business up and running, but you will also want to make sure that you also have enough money to support yourself and your family until you are able to start making a profit with your own business.

Another one of the many factors that you will want to take into consideration, when trying to determine if you should start your own business, is insurance. At your current position, do you have health insurance? If you are married, would you be able to get health insurance through your spouse? If you would be unable to do so, health insurance is something that you will want to take into consideration.

Even if your health is fine right now, you never know what could happen, especially if your health insurance is also used to help cover the rest of your family. Should you decide to start your own business, you should be able to purchase insurance for yourself or for the rest of your family. With that in mind, it is important to remember that insurance costs money, quite a bit of money to be exact.

What is nice about starting your own business is that you, literally, have an unlimited number of options. For example, did you know that you can sell a product or a service? Popular startup businesses include gift shops, cleaning services, accounting services, and so forth. In addition to the type of business that you would like to start, you also have a number of different options when it comes to operating a business.

Many entrepreneurs run online businesses, storefront businesses, or even both. In all honesty, the decision is yours to make. With that in mind, the decisions that you do make can have a huge impact in determining whether or not your business, should you decide to start one, is a success.

God -vs- science

God is sitting in Heaven when a scientist says to Him, “God, we don’t need you anymore. Science has finally figured out a way to create life out of nothing – in other words, we can now do what you did in the beginning.”

“Oh, is that so? Tell Me.” replies God.

“Well,” says the scientist, “we can take plain dirt and form it into the likeness of you, and breathe life into it, thus creating man.”

“Well, that’s very interesting … show Me,” says God.

So the scientist bends down to the earth and starts to mold the soil into the shape of a man.

“No, no, no …” interrupts God, “Get your own dirt.”

Cookies ???

A lady was there
At an airport one night
With several long hours
Before her flight.

She hunted for a book
In an airport shop,
Bought a bag of cookies
And found a place to drop.

She was engrossed in her book
But happened to see,
That the man sitting beside her
As bold as could be.

Grabbed a cookie or two
From the bag in between,
Which she tried to ignore
To avoid a scene.

So she munched the cookies
And watched the clock,
As the gutsy cookie thief
Diminished her stock.

She was getting more irritated
As the minutes ticked by,
Thinking, “If I wasn’t so nice,
I would blacken his eye.”

With each cookie she took,
He took one too.
When only one was left,
She wondered what he would do.

With a smile on his face,
And a nervous laugh,
He took the last cookie
And broke it in half.

He offered her half,
As he ate the other,
She snatched it from him
And thought….ooh, brother!

This guy had some nerve
And he’s also rude,
Why he didn’t even show
Any gratitude!

She had never known
When she had been so galled,
And sighed with relief
When her flight was called.

She gathered her belongings
And headed to the gate,
Refusing to look back
At the thieving ingrate.

She boarded the plane,
And sank in her seat,
Then she sought her book,
Which was almost complete.

As she reached in her baggage,
She gasped with surprise,
There was her bag of cookies,
In front of her eyes.

If mine are here,
She moaned in despair,
The others were his,
And he tried to share.

Too late to apologize,
She realized with grief,
That she was the rude one,
The ingrate, the thief!

How many times have we absolutely
known that something was a certain way,
only to discover later that what
we believed to be true….was not?

“Always Keep An Open Mind And
An Open Heart, Because………….
You Just Never Know….
You might be eating someone else’s cookies!”
