One Minute Tip:

Ask Better Questions

A good question is worth a thousand pieces of casual advice. A great question can instantly transform our lives and launch us in a whole new direction.

In almost any area of life, if you are not getting the results you want, try asking different, better, questions. I think you’ll like the results.

Power Quotes:

Happiness:

”Success is living up to your potential. That’s all. Wake up with a smile and go after life & live it, enjoy it, taste it, smell it, feel it.” — Joe Kapp

Health:

”Expect the best, plan for the worst, and prepare to be surprised.” — Denis Waitley

Prosperity:

”If you want to feel rich, just count all of the things you already have, that you know money cannot buy.”

Tips for your Happiness:

Can Hypnosis Help with Self-Esteem?

When we’re facing problems in our lives, we can use hypnosis to plant the seed of an idea into our subconscious mind and override the issue at hand. Some people use hypnosis to quit smoking or stop nail biting – even to overcome their fear of flying!

But it can also be used to change our outlook on life, increasing our self-esteem and building our confidence. There are many self-help books and resources you can use to build your self esteem, but what if those methods aren’t working?

Will hypnosis succeed where everything else has failed? Hypnosis can plant a suggestion into your subconscious mind to alter your fears, so that when the session is done, you can get on with your life without having the anxiety interfere.

For building self-esteem, hypnotherapy can assist you in building stepping-stones to a more confident life. It’s not something where you just listen to a few self-hypnosis CDs and expect to be swimming in self-esteem – you have to apply these thoughts to your daily interaction with others and build on the new thoughts so that they take root.

There are some hypno-therapists who specialize in self-help issues. But you can also learn to do it yourself, without the assistance of a professional hypnotist. If you see a professional, they may counsel you in addition to performing hypnosis.

Can anyone be hypnotized? Each person is different. It’s been reported that anyone who is open to it, can be hypnotized – and those who aren’t open to it, won’t be. Hypnotherapy works by placing a person in a relaxed, trance-like state and then introducing new thought patterns into their minds.

If you’re skeptical of the entire situation, then you may not be open enough to ever get into a relaxed state of mind. Hypnosis helps a person clear their mind of negative thoughts and influences that hinder your ability to feel good about yourself.

Sometimes, we just need to replace these negative thought patterns so that we’re fair to ourselves and objective about our good qualities. It can take away the anxiety we feel when we suddenly think we’re not good enough or smart enough to achieve our goals.

Everyone has inner doubts and fears, but by using hypnosis, we can eliminate some of them and make room for positive thoughts to dominate our minds and pave the way to a more confident and optimistic outlook on life!

Eliminate Stress

You have probably heard this before. Stress is a key contributor to poor health. Study after study has found that when a person is stressed, the body reacts.

The result of stress could be high-blood pressure, tension headaches, upset stomachs, poor posture, and so on. Keeping stress in check will help you manage your overall health much better.

Tips for your Health:

Aging Gracefully – With Exercise

There are many reasons that senior citizens should exercise on a regular basis, but the main one is that it helps to increase your overall health and ward off life-threatening diseases – especially those associated with aging. Simply put – exercising helps us age more gracefully.

Almost everyone knows the sort of problems we face when aging – slower metabolism, bone loss and stiffness in joints, muscle loss, balance problems, less endurance and heart and lung problems.

We all want a quick fix to aging, such as injections and facelifts or a pill we can take to halt or reduce the aging process. But, in reality, regular exercise is the only thing we can do for ourselves that will increase our overall health and well-being.

Exercise can help us maintain the ability to do things we love and to accomplish everyday tasks that we need to do rather than depending on someone else. Even if you’re a very out of shape senior citizen, there are simple exercises you can do that will make you feel better and enjoy your life.

Stretching is simple to do (you can even stretch while sitting) and can make remarkable strides in improving your joints and muscles. You can find online stretching exercises, choose from the many television shows that promote exercising or get a book from the library or bookstore.

You’ll want to be sure to choose exercises that stretch your back, arms, calves, thighs, stomach and chest – but don’t overdo it. Stretch for 5 to 20 minutes per day or whatever you feel up to.

Any activity that increases your endurance is great for senior citizens. Those exercises might include gardening, biking, swimming or simply walking the dog. Try to increase your breathing and heart rate, but don’t exercise so strenuously that you lose your ability to talk. Take it easy and you’ll benefit more than you realize.

Strength exercises are very important to engage in as you age. The more you can strengthen your muscles, the better able you’ll be to increase your metabolism (maintain a normal weight) and keep your blood sugar at normal levels.

Strength exercises can be in the form of machines at a gym or fitness center – or, you can even use items around the house, such as books and cans of food.

Exercises designed to strengthen your back should be an important part of your exercise program. Back pain can be excruciating and life-changing and is common in senior citizens. Ask your doctor for a list of exercises you can do to strengthen back muscles or research on your own to find some that are right for you.

One of the worst maladies that can affect senior citizens is balance problems. Aging can cause loss of balance, but so can certain medications. There are exercises to specifically build your leg muscles and increase your perception of balance so that you’re less likely to fall. Keep in mind that in the United States, hospitals admit over 400,000 people per year for broken hips – and most are senior citizens.

Okay … Who Doesn’t Have Time to Exercise Now? What if you could get the same results with six minutes of cardio exercise each week, as opposed to six hours? Well, if recent research is any indication, you can.

In a study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology, 23 reasonably fit men and women were timed to see how fast they could cycle 18 miles. They were then divided into three groups.

One group cycled two hours a day at a moderate pace. Another group biked 10 minutes a day in one-minute bursts. The third group biked for a total of two minutes a day – an all-out sprint for 30 seconds, followed by several minutes of rest (repeated four times).

After two weeks, the subjects repeated the 18-mile test – and all of their times improved to virtually the same degree. Additional tests showed that their muscle enzymes (essential for preventing diabetes) and the ability of their muscles to absorb oxygen also improved to the same degree.

Granted, this is a small study. But it does show that you can reduce your workout time (and get the same or better results) if you’re willing to endure some discomfort.

7 Ways to Save on Travel Expenses

The travel industry is complex and full of insider secrets. Never before has it been faced with the challenges of today.

With the endless increase in fuel prices and the constant threat of terrorism the travel industry has been forced to make cuts and changes. Any price hikes are invariably passed on to the consumer.

If the consumer is to be able to function affordably within this industry he must learn as much as possible of their policies, practices, procedures and even their vulnerabilities. The savings will go to the educated and the persistent.

1. Discount deals are found on the internet but they’re not always the best. Shop and compare. Some websites collect a volume discount fee which affects the price of your ticket. Check the newspaper for travel specials especially in the Sunday travel section.

2. Flying can still be cheaper (and faster) than driving even with soaring gas prices. This is particularly true of longer flights when you consider the cost of gas to drive, food and possibly hotels. Put a pencil to the numbers before you make a decision.

3. Use alternate airports and save. Many large cities have two or even three airports. Some are cheaper to fly into and out of than others. In smaller cities it may pay you to drive a few miles (even a hundred miles) to another city and utilize their airport.

This practice can save you hundreds of dollars. The smaller airports are usually more user friendly and offer cheaper or even free parking.

4. Two round-trip tickets can be cheaper than one. You just use the leg of the ticket you need, one going and one coming. This is called back to back ticketing and is frowned on by the airlines but is legal in most cases. Check the legality of this method before using and of course the cost savings.

5. Buyer beware. Where you book and buy your hotel room could determine the quality and location of the room you get. A hotel determines the room you receive based on what you paid.

If you got a deep discount you could be placed in a less desirable location such as near the ice machine or elevator. They would never admit this but to avoid the situation deal directly with the hotel’s website.

6. Car rental insurance is usually unnecessary. Check before you travel to see if your present auto insurance has you covered. If you charge the rental to a credit card most companies cover you automatically. Rental employees get a commission on insurance sold so beware of double coverage.

7. Last minute deals on airlines and hotels can save you a bundle but you must be flexible. Empty seats or vacant rooms bring no revenue so it’s a win-win situation for both parties. Keep tabs on these by signing up for e newsletters or search the web.

Travel services today are rarely complimentary. The more you know and the more you’re able to do for yourself the more you’ll save.

The Man Who Loved Starfish!

A friend of ours was walking down a deserted Mexican beach at sunset. As he walked along, he began to see another man in the distance.

As he grew nearer, he noticed that the local native kept leaning down, picking something up, and throwing it out into the water. Time and again, he kept hurling something out into the ocean.

As our friend approached even closer, he noticed that the man was picking up starfish that had washed up on the beach and, one at a time, was throwing them back into the water.

Our friend was puzzled. He approached the man and said, “Good evening, friend. I was wondering what you are doing?”

”I’m throwing these starfish back into the ocean. You see, it is low tide right now, and all of these starfish have washed up onto the shore. If I don’t throw them back into the sea, they’ll die from lack of oxygen.”

”I understand,” my friend replied, “but there must be thousands of starfish on this beach! You can’t possibly get to all of them. There are simply too many! And don’t you realize this is probably happening on hundreds of beaches all up and down this coast? Can’t you see that you can’t possibly make a difference?”

The local native smiled, bent down, and picked up yet another starfish and, as he threw it back into the sea, replied, “Made a difference to THAT one!”
