One Minute Tip:

’Tis the Season to Be Happy!

“Starting now, never again permit hard or disapproving facial expressions to intimidate you.” ~ Vernon Howard ~

Reinforce the belief that the only power others have is the power you give them. Their power comes from you. In fact, it is your gift to them.

Their power is merely “your perception” of their power (in other words, the source of their power is in your mind). And you have a choice at any moment how much power you will give them.

This very powerful principle can be applied to fears/anxieties you may have when dealing with others. As you regularly apply this principle, you’ll be more at ease when dealing with anyone, even authority figures or influential people.

Also, with this knowledge, it will be in your power to give “less” or “no” power to those who like to abuse it (ex. bullies or difficult people in general).

This empowers you, and reinforces your courage at the same time, because you are in a position to make a “conscious” decision. People won’t be able to abuse power because their power comes from you in the first place. At any moment, you can easily take back any power you’ve already given them…“just by deciding.”

Power Quotes:

Happiness:

“No human being has any authority over you. Your life belongs to you and to you alone.

No scowling face or irritated manner, no challenging posture or threatening tone has any power to make you feel nervous or anxious, frightened or angry.

This is a fact; and anyone who is tired of letting someone else tell them how to feel can use this self-liberating principle to win true and lasting independence. Your true nature answers to no man.”
~ Vernon Howard

Health:

”Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Prosperity:

“Do it like there’s no one watching, do it like you don’t need the money, do it like you just can’t lose, JUST DO IT.” ~ Nike Ad ~

Tips for your Happiness:

Low Self-Esteem Could Threaten Your Health

Low self-esteem can cause a lot of problems – both emotionally and physically – when left untreated. Here are some ways that it can threaten your health and what you can do to avoid them.

Depression – Depression is the first thing that happens when a person has low self-esteem. They start to feel worthless, which isolates them from their friends and family. Isolation only encourages them to think negative thoughts about themselves, which causes depression to go deeper. In severe cases, some resort to suicide.

Anxiety – Low self-esteem causes a person to have little confidence in themselves, which can cause fear and panic attacks when they’re faced with a situation they don’t want to be in.

Stress – Stress is a part of everyone’s lives, but it can seem enhanced for someone who’s suffering from low self-esteem. They’re not likely to take the steps necessary to avoid some of their stress, which causes their anxiety to build.

Weight Gain – People often try to fill the void of self-esteem with food. They ultimately start gaining weight to the point of being obese. Gaining too much weight causes heart problems, diabetes, and a host of other illnesses.

Weight Loss – While some people gain weight, others tend to binge and purge their food or starve themselves, thinking they will gain a more satisfying appearance. Unfortunately, they never reach a level where they are satisfied with their look and they become extremely sick, often to the point of no return without professional help.

Addictions – Some end up being addicted to street drugs or prescription drugs. They get high on these drugs and live that moment in time in a different world where they have no cares and no problems. Unfortunately they can end up brain damaged or dead if the addiction isn’t dealt with early on.

Alcohol abuse – Some turn to alcohol to try to forget their problems and feel better about themselves. They substitute alcohol as their friend because it provides them with the confidence they yearn for, but haven’t developed.

It makes them feel almost invincible and they do things they wouldn’t normally have the guts to do. Alcohol becomes an addiction and then over time, the abuse of it can cause liver problems, heart disease and contribute to the development of cancer.

These are only a few of the things that low self-esteem can cause. It’s important that the person with little or no self-esteem gets some help in building their confidence back up. If left untreated for too long, these health problems (and even more serious ones) can occur.

Unhappy? Check for these signs of stress:

Stress can and will affect everyone individually; which is why at times, it can be difficult to identify whether you are suffering from a symptom of stress.

One of the most common symptoms of stress is an upset stomach. This is sometimes undetected as we often pass an upset stomach off as a day illness. If the upset stomach continues, however, as it frequently does with stress, then you need to start considering the possible long term effects that this can have on your digestive system.

Another sign of stress is that you will have an increase in headaches and asthma attacks. This again can go unnoticed at first. When you notice headaches, migraines or asthma attacks beginning to become more frequent, try to note when you have feelings of anxiety or stress and when you suffer from an attack. This will help you to build a pattern.

Tips for your Health:

Many Herbs Are Being Used to Treat Arthritis

For many men and women, arthritis is a life-altering disease. Swelling of the joints, which causes stiffness and pain, isn’t reserved for the over 60 crowd – it also affects many children in the world, which is why herbal remedies are gaining in popularity.

Alfalfa is commonly used for arthritic treatment, because the tea remedy is effective when taken for two to three weeks with a seven to ten day break between consumption.

The herb Angelica is another arthritis treatment because it contains anti-inflammatory constituents and muscle relaxants as well as natural pain-relievers. This herb is used in a tea concoction as well, with the same frequency and breaks as the alfalfa remedy.

Black cohosh, an American Indian herb used in the treatment of arthritis symptoms, has qualities similar to aspirin as well as anti-inflammatory and anti-spasm constituents.

Boswellia, yet another herb used to treat arthritis, is similar to an over the counter or prescription-level non-steroid anti-inflammatory. It’s better than synthetic drugs, however, because it doesn’t give the user ulcers after long-term use.

Believe it or not, celery is another plant that can be used to treat arthritis. The celery seeds and other portions of the plant contain over 25anti-inflammatory compounds, as well as providing massive amounts of potassium, which is important because a deficiency in potassium is often a culprit of arthritic pain.

If celery isn’t your cup of tea, then how about using the herb Devil’s claw or even Epsom salt? Both have anti-inflammatory properties and can help alleviate swelling and pain, symptoms especially aggravating to someone suffering from the affliction.

There are many other herbs that contribute to arthritic treatment, such as feverfew, ginger, American ginseng, hop tea, licorice, mustard plaster, oregano, pineapple, red pepper, rosemary, sesame seeds, stinging nettle, turmeric, wild cucumber bark, wild yam, willow, wintergreen, and yucca.

Some of these herbs are used topically, as the minerals are absorbed into the skin, while others are ingested internally for maximum benefits. As with all medications or treatment, you should consult your doctor before taking herbs, especially if you’re already on other medications prescribed by your doctor.

Allergies Can Make You Snore

Do you have a problem with snoring? You might be surprised to find out that it is coming from a problem with allergies. Even if you do not typically have allergic reactions, they can show up during the night whenever we are breathing more deeply.

Most people realize that they have some problems with pollen allergies but few of them make that connection between this type of allergen and snoring. During the day, our hair acts as a magnet for this type of pollen and if we don’t wash our hair before bedtime, it can be transferred to the pillow. This can make for a very difficult night of sleep as we breathe the pollen in from the pillow slip.

Tips for your Prosperity:

What Your Kids Want Most Is Time, Not Money

It’s so easy to give your kids a few dollars and send them on their way. They probably even came to you and asked for money to hang out with their buddies. But, many times what they really want is time with you.

They don’t want to interfere with your busy lifestyle so they take the easy way out by going out. You make it easier for them by handing over the money, no questions asked.

Today’s rapid paced world makes it difficult to find spare time to meet with your family much less spend quality bonding time. Everyone is always on the go and you see each other in the morning before the day’s activities begin and at night when everyone comes home; but then it’s time for bed.

Even meals are too often eaten standing up or at a fast food restaurant. There’s no time for conversation and that includes both talking and listening to your children. It’s the wise family that schedules time to be together.

Set aside at least one night a week for the family to be together, alone. This doesn’t mean the kids can invite friends over on that night.

Take the phone off the hook or any activity or conversation will be constantly interrupted. If you’ve not done this all along and your kids are older, it will be difficult at first but soon everyone will look forward to it.

What you do is not that important. But, it’s important that you’re together. Talk to your children, asked them questions, be interested in their world and get involved if needed. Listen to how they spent their day and the problems and successes they had.

Board games for the family can be fun and entertaining. If you’re watching your budget, most board games can be found inexpensively at discount stores and yard sales.

You probably already have the basic games such as cards, dominoes and checkers. Younger children love for someone to read to them. If they’re older, read with them and share what you’ve read afterwards.

Work together on crafts or cooking. Building something together is a great way to discover each other’s talents and converse at the same time.

You probably remember when your dad helped you build a model airplane or go-cart. Perhaps it was memorable times in the kitchen with mom baking a cake or preparing dinner together.

Always compliment your children and emphasize the positive not the negative. Let them know you’re there for them anytime, anywhere. Hugs are always nice to enforce the positive and so are notes left unexpectedly on the refrigerator or lunch box.

All together, time doesn’t have to be spent at home but try to plan outside activities that allow interaction. A camping trip or fishing expedition would be fun and inexpensive. You could even camp out in the back yard.

Your kids probably are involved in many school sports, plays and festivals they would love for you to attend. Giving children your time and love is not expensive and one of the most worthwhile investments you’ll ever make.
