Overcoming Depression | Learning from Your Past

Everybody has had their fair share of sob stories, and it is definitely no excuse that you let your past affect you as a person. You’re old enough to know what’s right and wrong, and while people may empathize with what you went through at first, it does get old when you constantly use this as an excuse for your behavior. Remember, when you go through these difficult experiences, you should never forget to take care of yourself. Your life shouldn’t revolve on only one person. You have your career and your friends to also think about.

There may be times in your life when you’d feel absolutely alone. Get all those frustrations out. Go out with your friends, take trips somewhere, or get involved in an activity. Fight the pain and purge yourself from everything negative. If a change of lifestyle is what you need, then go for it. Just make sure that you get rid of anything that may remind you of those bleaker times. If the pain is embedded deep within your heart, looking back isn’t as easy as it seems. Living in a different environment may give you relief because this will have nothing to do with your old life. You may even find your true calling this way. Who knows? Right now, you should simply open yourself up for more surprises.

There may be people who have hurt you, but you need to save yourself from your worsening ways first. Find yourself first because nothing is more tragic than wasting your time on people who won’t love you the way you deserve. Yes, you’ll be hurt for a while, but the only way you’ll ever find hope is to be okay with how things are with your life. You need to take care of you, and that should be your priority. You have better chances of finding happiness on your own without letting the past weigh you down. Yes, you are fabulous and independent individual who should learn from the past instead of living in it.

You don’t need to use other people as a crutch who hold you upright. For once, tap into your own power by making decisions that aren’t based on anyone else’s belief. You ought to know what’s best for you. Find the answers within you before you immediately go crying for help. Seek counsel when you really need it, but know that you can still stand straight when left on your own. As you continually try to be strong, your guts will propel you to do something greater.

When the past has left its scars, don’t try to hide them. Be proud of what you’ve gone through. After all, you now know more than anyone else. Rather than making others feel the pain that you once felt, people will admire you more if you show them that you’ve grown from the experience and came out of it with feet firmly planted on the ground. The future has so much to offer, and dragging the past along is pointless.
