How to Make Your Relationship Last

When the relationship first starts, everything’s fine and dandy. But after a while, you both get back to the routine you’re used to. Sure, the romance is still there, but somehow you forget to treat your partner the way they deserve to be treated. Your special someone is more than just your friend. You don’t draw lines with this person, but you somehow over time, you’re back in your comfort zone. It takes work to make a relationship last.

This means that you still have to try and keep that spark if you feel that this is the person you want to share the rest of your life with. Sure, you’ve pulled out all the stops during the first few months, but now, the thrill is gone. If you don’t want that person to look elsewhere, there must be a give and take.

Let your partner know that you’re concerned about their wellbeing by asking about their day. If you need to ask something, don’t ever hesitate. People constantly change, and over time, even the interests may differ. By asking them about their life, you let them know that you recognize them for whoever they are. Listen to their answers and follow these up with questions in the following days.

Don’t bombard them with your inquiries all at one time. You don’t want to sound as if you’re interrogating them. Rather, by spacing the questions apart, you let them know that you simply want to know how things are with them.

Plan spontaneous dates, even if they fall on a weekday and you have an early meeting the next day. After all, dates don’t have to last ‘til the wee hours of the morning; they just have to be fun. You can always ask what they want to do, but sometimes, you also have to take the driver’s seat.

Come up with options and plan something that you know you both will enjoy. This keeps the bond strong and you reassure your partner that you always have their best interests at heart.

Flirt with your partner often. When you constantly show your playful side, you maintain that awesome spark that first drew you two together. Plus, it’s just fun to do it. New couples find ways to please each other in extraordinarily new ways, but there’s also a lot to be said about familiarity.

Having been together for some time now, you know each other’s quirks and peeves. Flirting is a lot easier when you know what tickles your partner’s fancy. Even simple gestures are appreciated. In fact, it’s the little things that count.

When you manage to take some time to be together, you will also be more adept at communication. Always value their opinions, and even when they sound silly, don’t try to roll your eyes in exasperation. You can also try to make things more pleasant for you when you stop being too emotional. Humor has a lot to do in making a relationship last. Make time to enjoy life together.

Also, do things that make them smile. When you show that you’re making the effort, you inspire them to do the same for you. Soon, you’ve built a relationship that is sure to stand the test of time.
