Home Business Ideas | Making Money with Home Canned Produce
If you happen to be someone who really enjoys gardening and tends to produce a wonderful vegetable garden each year, it may be that you’ll want to consider canning these vegetables and selling them. So many people today are trying to find the healthiest way to eat and feed their families, and they tend to look in the direction of fresh grown vegetables. This works out extremely well if you happen to live on a farm and are already growing more vegetables than you can handle.
Many people who end up with excess vegetables during the growing and harvesting months either take them in fresh form to the local Farmer’s Market to sell, or they can them. Canned vegetables come in quite handy through the winter months for families because they don’t need to buy overpriced and processed cans of vegetables.
They also don’t need to pay exorbitant prices for fresh vegetables that have been shipped in from other places. All they have to do is visit their pantry and take down a jar of whatever vegetable they want.
People living on a large farm have the option of planting surplus vegetables in their gardens each year. When these vegetables have been harvested, they can be canned and safely stored for several months. These can be green beans, corn, tomatoes, squash, beets, pickles made from cucumbers, and a number of other vegetables.
Something else that people have been known to do is make salsa and store it the same way. There are so many vegetables that can be harvested, canned and sold, that it would be silly to not at least consider it.
You can do the same thing with fruit. All you need is access to some blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples, peaches, plums and whatever other types of fruit grow on your property. These fruits can be turned into jams, preserves, and jellies. They can also be canned to use for pies and cobblers.
Fruit that is canned in your kitchen from fresh ingredients bring a much better price than you may imagine. This is true especially among city dwellers that don’t have the option of planting their own fruits and vegetables. They prefer the home grown kind because there have been no additives. The fruit starts off fresh and stays that way.
In fact, the majority of people who have never grown their own fruits and vegetables swear that home canned produce has a much better taste than the tinned can variety you find in the grocery store. Depending on where you live, it may be possible for you to sit up your own little stand to sell both fresh and canned produce.
When the fresh produce has finally stopped growing for the year and the last harvest has been made, selling the canned goods will be quite popular. People will be searching for the next best thing to fresh fruits and vegetables. Your home canned produce just may fit the bill for them.
It’s also possible to sell directly from your home, through a store on a contingency basis, and carefully packaged and shipped.
