Gain Weight to become Healthy

Most people try to lose weight but there are others that need to gain weight. Although being underweight is not as risky as being overweight, there may still be possible disorders that could result from being underweight.

Being underweight can be indicative of several health consequences such as weakened immune system, lack of nutrients, frail bones, and cancer.

If you are eating regularly and in sufficient quantity, you should be within your normal weight level or slightly over. Being underweight despite having a healthy appetite is suspicious and should be investigated thoroughly.

A low body weight could be the result of a poor diet. You may be eating the right quantity of food but not the appropriate mix or quality of food. If you don’t receive the appropriate nutrients to build up your immune system, it will result in a weak immune system.

This becomes evident when you become sick and experience difficulty in combating the virus and recovering from the illness. You will lack the strength to fight off the viruses. Fragile bones or osteoporosis can result from lack of calcium and vitamin D.

Some studies show that a daily diet of 1,000 to 1,200 mgs of calcium is recommended for adults to build strong and healthy bones. If you have an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia, you will tend to be underweight and susceptible to osteoporosis, aside from other potential illnesses that can result from being underweight.

To be healthy, you should maintain a well balanced diet and be within the normal weight limits. The body mass index is one form of measurement that can be used to determine if you are within the normal weight limits.

When gaining weight, you should be sure the weight you gain contains the required nutrients. Otherwise, you may be gaining weight without benefitting from the possible nutrients and vitamins that should be part of the food you are consuming.

There are food and nutrient charts that show you the type of food you should be taking as part of your diet meal. Here are some other advices that may help you gain weight.

Take regular physical fitness exercises and eat more than you need. The exercises will tone up your muscles and remove excess fat from developing in your body. However, exercising makes you lose nutrients fast and you have to replenish them as soon as possible.

When replenishing your nutrients, try to eat more than you need. For instance, if you need to consume 1,000 calories daily, add 500 calories more. Hopefully, you will gain in the long run despite your regimented daily exercises. It will also help maintain your physical metabolism.

Consuming additional calories may not be as difficult as determining the type of food you should eat to get the extra calories. For instance, eating junk food and sweets might give you the extra calories but is not the right type of food to be eating as they can cause more harm than benefit.

Try meals that have high protein and low carbohydrates and, don’t miss out on the other requirements, such as fats. There are fatty acids that can’t be produced by the body and so must be part of your food intake, such as Omega 3, 6 and 9.

Eat small meals but more frequently may help you gain weight. Food digests faster since it is a smaller quantity but you replenish the energy by eating more often. Taking small meals every 3 hours may be better than taking a huge meal every 5 hours.

You don’t feel bloated after meals and you feel more relaxed and comfortable. However, if your type of work is strenuous and lasts for a long time, you might need to eat more to maintain your physical strength.

Have a heavy breakfast meal. This is your first meal of the day and you had no food intake during the time you were asleep. You can start off with a big meal but taper off and revert to small frequent meals during the day. Keep monitoring your progress and consult your doctor regularly.
