Summertime is inevitably a season when we all at some time or
another bring out the swimwear. Whether it is at the beach,
camping or the cottage, the warm weather and tantalizing water
encourages a refreshing swim. There are some on the other hand
who may not even use their swimwear for the water but who like
to sit in the sun’s rays and give their skin the glow of summer.
Whatever use you have for your bikini or swimwear the wonderful
assortment of fabrics, styles and accessories will have you out
and about enjoying the fine weather.
There are some of us who don’t exactly look forward to this time
of year when we have to bring out the swimwear and bikinis in
hopes that those couple of extra pounds gained over the year
won’t have us bulging out of the seams. Not to fret though as
swimwear today offers great stretch fabrics for easy mobility
and plenty of style options that might just minimize or hide
any imperfections.
The fabric, body shape, design and color are all factors when
choosing the most flattering swimwear for you. When selecting a
swimsuit the quality of fabric is important as you want a suit
that will stand up to the seasons of wear, sun and saltwater.
Nylon, Lycra and Faille are popular fabrics used for swimsuits,
they resist fading and hold their stretchiness. Nylon and Lycra
used together offer more stretch then standard swimwear along
with shaping, control and comfort for the wearer.
The design of the swimsuit is probably the most important factor
when women are out shopping for swimwear and bikinis. You will
find plenty of suggestions on flattering suits for all sorts of
body types. There are suits to create curves where needed, suits
to minimize hips, suits to whittle waistlines, others to add
shape to specific areas and then there are the standard all
purpose suits that may look great on a variety of shapes. Lines
and colors are very important in minimizing or accentuating
particular parts of the body. Black and darker colors are often
used to minimize, while stripes depending on whether they are
vertical or horizontal are used for the same minimizing
(vertical) or accentuating (horizontal) effects. There are
several special sizes of swimsuits available to accommodate
women from petite, tall and plus sizes.
Bikinis alone come in several popular designs that may include;
tankinis which are similar to a tank top (with matching bottom,
there are different variations of the tankini from short (above
the navel) to tops that touch the bottom piece; bandeau tops are
designed as a strip usually with no straps; halter tops are just
as the name implies similar to a halter with possibly a string
that goes around the neck connecting the bodice; lastly there are
bra-tops (similar to bra designs) and triangle tops (triangle
designs). The bikini that works best will vary from person to
person, you want a top that offers support if needed, it is
always best to try on a few different tops and see what works
best.
Women’s swimsuits offer features such as; soft-cup bras which
give full support, built-in shelf bras with underwire, sarongs
that add gentle shaping to midsection, gentle tummy wraps that
accentuates shape, side shirring adding gentle shaping, and
overlapping tops with bottoms for gentle coverage. There are
also swimsuits available in swim dress designs which offer
additional coverage of hips if needed for some, and bandeau
style one pieces with no straps.
Women really are at an advantage when it comes to selecting
swimwear designs, as the number of women’s designs far exceeds
the number of men’s designs. Women’s swimsuits come in one-piece
designs, swim dress designs, sarong swimsuits, tankini suits and
several bikini designs. Whereas men’s suits are available mostly
in the standard racing style, swim trunk and swim short designs.
The list of swimwear accessories is as great as the swimsuits to
be had. The accessories are an important part of your beach or
lake excursion, and can include; straw hats, crochet hats, sun
hats, short chemises, pareo (cover up skirt), cover ups, capri’s,
thongs, sunglasses, tote bags, mesh bags and most importantly
beach towels.
Children’s swimwear offers some excellent options for those
little one’s just learning to swim. There are great thermal
wear suits available, which keep children nice and warm, the
innovative suits are made from a specially treated heat
reflective neoprene material. Thermal wear suits and special sun
protective swimwear also offer UV protection from the sun. There
are special water shoes for children that protect their small
feet and help to prevent slips. Then of course there is the wide
variety of designs and fabrics available to choose from. Designs
for girls come in one and two piece while the boys’ suits most
often come in the short and trunk designs.
Other considerations to keep the children busy at the beach or
lake are lifejackets, arm floats, flotation devices, goggles
and beach toys. There are great swim vests and special swimming
tubes specially made for children to gradually ease into
swimming. The list of pool toys is endless with floating
basketball nets, dive toys, swimming fins and volleyball
games to name a few.
The sun protection clothing and sun protective swimwear that
is being manufactured is innovative and an excellent choice
especially for children. Some of the sun protective clothing and
swimwear claims to block 98 per cent of UV rays with a UPF of 50
plus. What this means is that only one fiftieth of UV radiation
falling on the surface of the garment will pass through. Wearing
this clothing is added protection against the suns harmful rays.
When going to the beach, pool or when participating in any
outdoor activity it is important to wear a sunscreen of at
least thirty. Nothing spoils a day in the sun like the pain of
sunburn. That is why being prepared for your outing is important,
bring along the necessary hats, sunglasses and cover-ups to
ensure both comfort and protection. This is true especially for
children, it’s probably best to avoid mid afternoon intense sun
if possible. However if you cannot avoid being in the sun, be
sure to bring along a beach umbrella to provide shade and again
hats and sunscreens for children are absolutely necessary.
With so many wonderful swimwear options to choose from your
beach, pool, lake or camping experience can be both pleasurable
and fashionable. Take the time and find a swimsuit that you feel
comfortable in and one that compliments your particular figure.
With the right swimwear choices you will be ready for all your
travel and vacation needs with a suit that lasts for a few
seasons.

Twelve Ways To Look Slimmer Instantly
Do you have at least one garment in your closet that you never
wear because it makes you look fat? Maybe you take it out and try
it on every now and then but it still doesn't flatter. It doesn't
matter what you weigh you can easily make yourself look fat with
the wrong clothes. Learn these basic camouflage rules and you'll
never make the same mistake again.
1. Avoid anything stiff. A stiff garment forms a square box
around you. It doesn't fall into flattering loose folds but
stands out on its own making even skinny people look large.
Having a shape is important whatever your size.
2. The same goes for the large tents that we try to camouflage
ourselves in. It doesn't work we just look larger. Shape is
needed.
3. Other than in your accessories don't wear anything shiny.
Shiny is great for jewelry, bags, decorative motifs, scarves,
but not for a whole garment. Shine reflects the light making
you look bigger and showing every curve and bump.
4. You know about avoiding horizontal stripes but are you aware
of hidden stripes? A belt in a contrasting shade, large top
pockets, contrasting ribbing on the bottom of a jersey?
These are all stripes and can make you look larger than you
wish. Look carefully at a garment to check for these design
traps and avoid them.
5. Conversely, subtle vertical stripes are (usually) your
friend. Find them in a garment's style and stitching,
a deeply cut V-necked jacket, a silk scarf hanging loosely,
long beads, the drape of pants or skirt etc.
6. But vertical stripes on tightly clinging leggings or pants
are not flattering. The stripes follow your curves,
emphasizing them cruelly.
7. Avoid bulky fabrics such as quilted parkas- these often
offend on two counts, one by horizontally machined quilting
and another by too much padding. They look enormous and so
does anyone who wears them. Thick mohair jumpers are another
fattener. Thinner fabrics, such as polar fleece, can be
equally warm so there is no need to bulk up.
8. On the other hand don't buy cheap thin fabrics. A fabric
must have enough body to hang well rather than clinging.
Even T-Shirts in cheap thin fabrics look dreadful and they
don't last as long so are not really cheaper. Buy fewer
and buy quality.
9. Monochrome dressing is slimming and elegant. Dress in one
color from top to toe, preferably a dark neutral. For
interest vary textures or add color in your accessories.
A plain black outfit with a turquoise silk scarf or bright
pink earrings for example.
10. Don't wear frills and ruffles if you have passed your 10th
birthday. They add bulk and look tacky.
11. Beware of clothes that are too small, they are fattening.
Not only are they unflattering but wearing them makes you
feel fat all day. If a garment is tight chuck it out or
pack it away until it fits again.
12. If you have put on a pound or two don't forget to check
your bra. Does it still fit? Its so easy to forget and to
keep wearing a bra that fitted once. Badly fitting bras
create horrible bulges across your back, treat yourself
to a new one.
If you bear these tips in mind when shopping for clothes you
will have a much better chance of losing a pound or two and
looking great.

Loving Our Bodies "As Is": Three Fun, Funny, No-Fail Techniques
I'm Talking to You!
I heard you groan when you read the title. I know what you are
thinking: "Not me. Not ever! I am too disgusting, too fat, too ugly,
too unacceptable, too rejected, too skinny, too pock-marked, too
flat-chested . . ." I have heard it all and said much of it to myself.
Aren't you tired of wishing you looked different? Aren't you sick of
trying every new diet that steamrolls down the freeway aimed
straight at your self-confidence? Do you think possibly you've
been duped by a youth-obsessed, anorexia-inducing culture? ?
Isn't enough finally enough, already?
A confession: I do not yet love my body completely as it is. I am in
recovery from a disapproval addiction, and I will need to be in
recovery every day for the rest of my life and so will you. This is
not bad news; it is good news. Recovery is fun. You will live
longer, laugh more, and have time to appreciate the important
parts of your life instead of wasting your precious time focusing on
that dry skin on your elbows or those little wrinkles around your
eyes.
Technique # 1: Use Your Hateful Thoughts As Reminders to Love
Yourself
Self-hate is a wily beast, and he takes on disguises, telling us his
advice is "for our own good." He is relentless and persistent. So
use him! When he appears, use his energy as a reminder to do
something lovely and generous for yourself, such as kissing your
sweet lips on the bathroom mirror. You'll dirty up the mirror, you
say? Good! Those kiss marks will remind you to not take yourself
so seriously, which is half of the battle.
Every time you have a mean thought about yourself, grab it by the
throat, give it a quick kiss, and send it on its way. "Bye, bye,
now!" You say as the hate and judgment scuttle out of your mind.
"You go out and play in the middle of the freeway now. Don't look
both ways!"
This technique will work immediately. Make yourself laugh and you
have almost won the battle. Your laughter has improved your
digestion, reduced your stress, increased the effectiveness of your
immune system, and brightened your day. What's not to like?
Technique #2: Get Out of the Beauty Race
Every person decides what is beautiful and what is ugly. Some
photographers, for example, think worms are gorgeous and so
they are. We can decide we are beautiful "as is" if we stop
comparing ourselves with others.
If you practice finding yourself inadequate, you get good at it. But
you can become an expert who replaces comparing with
appreciating the beauty around you - all beauty. Stop comparing
yourself to other people right now. Go cold turkey.
Instead of judging yourself or others, enjoy the feel of your skin,
the gentleness of a touch, the sweetness of a smile, and the glory
of a generous nature. Take pleasure in the beauty of the sun
shining in your friend's golden hair. Just don't compare your own
"dishwater, mousy" hair with hers.
If you start to compare your aging hand to a younger woman's,
kiss your own hand and say, "I love you, my sweet." It's easy to
love this hand that works for you all day long typing, picking up
coffee cups, and stroking the cheeks of those you love. Don't tell
your hand it is ugly because it's showing the unique history of your
journey on the planet. Do you really want the hands of a twelve
year old forever? When you pay attention to what really matters,
every invitation to compare yourself with others will turn into a
moment of celebration.
Keep a journal. Write in it every day and celebrate yourself and
other people. If you are not good at this to start with, don't worry.
You will get better.
Technique #3: Look at Yourself Naked in the Mirror and Celebrate
Your Body "As Is."
You can see why I saved this technique for the last. You might
have to "cheat" when you try this habit at first, at least it may feel
like cheating to you. That's okay. Is your lip worthy of love? Your
temple? How about the inside of your arm? Your ears? The area
between your thumb and your index finger? Your fingernail? Find
some part of your body you find acceptable as it is.
Focus on one body part until you love it. Then find another part to
love just as it is. You might say: "I love you, Thumbnail. You are
great. You protect me and I would be in a world of hurt without
you. I have taken you for granted until now, but I am through with
that!"
You Can Do It!
If three techniques feel like too many, pick the one that sounds the
most fun and start practicing it every day. You deserve to be loved
just as you are! Be the first one on your block to love your body
"as is" and see the startling benefits. On second thought, who
cares what the rest of the block is doing? Love now. You won't
regret it.
