Many people find it difficult to look in the mirror and accept the reality that the person they see is obese or overweight. It hurts even more when those around make fun of the individual.

This may occur because an individual eats too much and doesn’t burn the calories in the food that has been consumed or it may be caused by genetics. Regardless of the reason, there is still hope.

A person may have to work hard to achieve an ideal weight and desired appearance which may be accomplished by living a healthier lifestyle. A good solution will be to make some dietary changes.

A dietitian can design a program for a person to follow. Making some dietary changes does not mean giving up many of their favorite foods; it simply means eating smaller quantities and including food from all of the food groups.

The body needs energy to get through the day. When a person engages in an activity, the first source of energy tapped is always carbohydrates. These include oats, rice, pasta, bread, cereals and potatoes: yet fruits and vegetables still provide the greatest amount of carbohydrates because they are natural foods that contain enzymes, phyto-chemicals and other nutrients that artificial foods cannot provide.

Reducing the amount of fat in the diet is essential. These fats usually come from mono and poly-saturated sources as well as animal fat. Fat should be eaten in small quantities because too much or too little can cause problems with the dietary program.

A good example is milk. Those who drink should switch from whole milk to low fat. Soy milk is also ideal for those who require calcium to strengthen their bones. The intake of liquids is very important for those dieting. There are many calories in sodas (pop) and juices; even diet sodas are not good because they only make an individual want to eat more. The best thing to drink during each meal is still water.

By eating smart, a person will feel good and be able to see the difference in their appearance. People who once laughed will be envious. Even after the desired weight and appearance has been achieved, it is important that it is maintained.

If not, those extra pounds will come back and a person will have to start over again.

Food That Can Enhance Your Appearance

Being physically fit not only means being healthy; it also means that you are looking great. A healthy diet is essential for maintaining a desired weight and is a key factor for improving your entire appearance.

There are foods that are essential for having a healthy body and a youthful appearance. You do not have to undergo aesthetic surgery to look good. All you need is to eat the proper food needed to make you healthy.

Here are some recommended foods that are best for maintaining your body weight to make you look your best.

1. Eat plenty of fruit. You can eat a variety of fruits, which are rich in Vitamin C. It is advisable to measure the calorie intake every day. For a 2000-calorie diet, you may need only 2 cups of fruit juice. You may eat one large orange or a small banana. 2. Eat dark green vegetables such as broccoli, beans, and kale. Other vegetables that are also essential for a healthy diet include pumpkins, garbanzo beans, lentils, winter squash, carrots, and split beans.

3. Eat the essential whole grains. You may have at least 3 ounces of bread, rice, cereals, or pasta daily. One slice of bread or one cup of cereal is estimated to be one ounce.

4. Eat calcium rich food. You may have 3 cups of fat free milk or 3 cups of yogurt. You may also have ˝ cup of low fat cheese, which is equivalent to 1 cup of milk. Drink lactose-free milk if there is no available low fat milk.

5. Go lean with protein rich foods. Buy meat and poultry that are low in fats. Consider grilling or baking the meat product to lessen the fat. Add fish, seeds, and beans, which are good sources of protein.

6. You need to drink at least eight glasses of water daily and avoid drinking beverages that contain sugar. Avoid drinking alcohol to make sure that your skin does not become dry.

7. Eat foods that are rich in zinc. Zinc can help you maintain the necessary elements from the oil glands of the skin. It helps prevent acne breaking out on your face.

Food groups, which are rich in Vitamin A, C, and E, can provide a healthy diet. Vitamin E especially is essential for maintaining a beautiful skin. A balanced diet is necessary to assure proper distribution of vitamins and minerals within the body. This will insure that you stay healthy and at the same looking your best.

Today beauty is associated with a beautiful body. From TV commercials to fashion magazines, thin women are in and those who are overweight are out. However, more than half of the population is overweight. This problem is affecting not only women but men of all ages.

A healthy lifestyle not only increases a person’s energy but it can also enhance their appearance. Most people who are overweight do not watch their diet, and that leads to unwanted obesity.

Here are some tips to follow to achieve a beautiful body through proper dieting:

1. Eat high-fiber, low fat foods such as salads, vegetables, and pasta.

2. Eat small amounts of food every two hours instead of having a big breakfast, lunch, or dinner. By doing this, the metabolism will increase and burn calories faster. Do not skip a single meal as there is less temptation to eat junk food when the stomach is full.

3. Instead of cornflakes, try oatmeal for breakfast to lower your cholesterol level. Eating oatmeal for breakfast keeps a person from wanting snacks before lunch because it is rich in fiber.

4. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. It helps cut the appetite and improves the appearance of the skin.

5. Avoid alcoholic beverages especially beer; instead, try fruit juices or iced tea.

6. Avoid sweets. Chocolate specifically can ruin the diet. Avoiding it does not mean total abstinence from it though - have some once a week!

7. Instead of eating meat, try fish. Eating a large amount of fish does not make somebody fat.

8. Abstain from eating after 6 PM. This has worked for many people. The idea behind it is to keep food away from the body when its metabolism is at its slowest state. For people who cannot totally eliminate food during this time eat yogurt, cabbage, fish, or green salad.

9. Lose weight sensibly. Do not keep the stomach hungry. It is a common belief that skipping meals is a sure way to lose weight; but that is just plain wrong! Instead, try eating fruit like watermelon, papaya, etc.

10. Avoid frying with oil: try to use non-stick cookware to cut down the oil or use paper towels to remove excess oil.

11. Instead of whole milk, put skim milk in your coffee or tea. There is no difference in the taste, just the number of calories.

Loosing weight has been one of America’s problems that’s affecting more than half of the population. To decrease that percentage, follow the simple 11 steps above.
