One Minute Tip:

Re-establish Old Traditions

If you and your mate had a tradition of some kind when you first got together, dust it off and breathe life back into it.

Perhaps you met after work on Friday at the local pub for a drink, washed your cars together every Saturday morning, or attended church together on Sunday.

Whatever it was, re-establish the tradition.

Power Quotes:

Remember, happiness doesn’t depend upon who you are or what you have, it depends solely upon what you think.
– Dale Carnegie

There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them.
-Dr. Denis Waitley quote

If you wish to travel far and fast, travel light. Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness, and fears.
– Glenn Clark quote

Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting.
– Elizabeth Bibesco quote

In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.
– Thomas Jefferson – success quote

Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.
– Louisa May Alcott famous quote

Tips for your Happiness:

Workplace Humour: Laughter That Won’t Cost You Your Job

The employee with the greatest sense of humour is often the most liked person in any office setting. Aside from lightening an otherwise stressful and boring environment, having a sense of humour will also ensure that everybody’s sanity is intact at the end of the day.

Often, the person with the sense of humour is the one who has the most lunch and after-office invitations from colleagues. He or she is the person the staffs turn to when they want to feel at ease or escape for a few minutes from the daily hustle and bustle.

Though a sense of humour is what will make people flock to you and love you more in the office, you should also be wary about the things you say. If you’re not careful with your words, they could all come back to you and backfire. The next thing you know, instead of making people happy, you could be arousing conflict among your workmates, or, worse, your boss.

Here are some recommendations to ensure that your sense of humor does not cross any sensitive line and get you fired.

1. Choose your words wisely.

Accept that you will never be able to please everyone around you. While some of your workmates might find you hilariously funny, there are those who might be sensitive to what you say.

Personal jokes and poking fun at someone’s appearance, intelligence, or whatever, is not funny at all. It is destructive and will not earn you brownie points. Stick to jokes that are general and avoid personal attacks, as they can hamper inter-office relationships and invite resentment.

2. Pace yourself.

You have to have good timing when you throw in a joke. Sometimes, the tension in the office is too high that cracking a joke does not really help solve matters. It’s not always appropriate to use your sense of humour in any situation. There’s a time to be serious.

If you really need to crack a joke because you feel it will lighten the mood, start slow and start small. If people respond positively, then that’s when you make another remark. If nobody seems to appreciate a small joke at this time, a huge joke might not be in order.

Don’t get carried away. If you’re the ‘office clown’ it’s really not your responsibility to make people laugh all the time. Don’t pressure yourself.

3. Do well first.

People tend to give you more credit and respect if you do well in your particular job. So, before you crack a joke about the office environment or about the tension that surrounds you all, make sure first that you’ve done your job well. After all, that’s what you’re at the office for. A person who neglects his duties and only focuses on ‘making people laugh’ is no good at all. Be one and your boss will surely fire you from your post before you can say, “I’m just kidding.”

Remember that the office is a place for work. While a great sense of humour is highly welcome, you must always keep in mind that there are tasks to be done and that merely cracking jokes won’t get the job completed. However, a good, well-time joke will also help motivate your colleagues to doing better. The key here is timing and content. Keep these two to heart.

Tips for your Health:

Love, Affection and Health

Positive emotions keep us healthy. These emotions may be shared with family or friends. A healthy diet is more than the food we eat. It is everything that nourishes us physically, mentally or spiritually.

Even picturing images of being nurtured or loved by someone strengthens the immune system. The effect last for about one hour.

STRESS AWAY FROM WORK

Anyone who’s ever been stuck in a major traffic jam probably has seen the darker side of many people’s personalities. It seems everyone is always in a hurry to either get, or go somewhere, and never seem to allow enough time for the everyday problems that are bound to crop up from time to time.

Banging on the steering wheel, laying on the horn, giving someone the “finger,” or shooting a string of obsc.enities is only reacting to something that has already happened. You can’t make the guy in front of you go any faster, or prevent someone from cutting you off. Accidents, road repairs, and just plain heavy traffic happens.

Learn to deal with it or don’t drive. If you must, at least change your route from time to time. Always allow plenty of time, and try and make all trips as pleasant as possible. You may not realize it, but how you act on your way to work, or on your way home will have either a positive or negative impact. Accept the fact that it’s something you just have to get through so you may as well try and make the best of it.

Most people are smart enough to know that they should set some time aside to take it easy. If you participate in some sports activity, remember you’re doing it to relax! While many people naturally have their competitive nature come to the surface when engaging athletics, don’t lose sight of the fact you’re participating to have fun. Don’t get bent out of shape if you don’t always win or otherwise play up to par. The whole point is to enjoy yourself and forget your everyday worries. Treat it as a night out with the “boys,” or gals and relax!

Families can be as source of support, an oasis away from the everyday pressures or sometimes it’s only a place to grab a few hours sleep and get back in the rat race. Your children, spouse, family members, in-laws can be a source of irritation at times. If someone is constantly doing something that really “bugs you,” tell the offending person or persons and see if things can be straightened out before things get out of control.

A man’s home (a woman’s too) should indeed be a place to rest and relax. Many people find it helpful unwind by sharing the day’s events with their loved ones. It should not develop into a daily routine, nor should you give a detailed blow by blow recap of the day’s events, but when things go wrong, who better to talk to than your family?

Holding things back, keeping it inside yourself, almost always does more harm than good and can affect not only your well-being but everyone else in your family as well. Talking things over is a great way to get rid of built up stress that many people overlook.

You should also be a good listener. Don’t unload your problems and have no time for your mate’s or children’s problems. They may seem trivial to you, but they are real problems that need solving just like yours.

A great way to get rid of stress is, every once in a while, do something totally different and unexpected without any prior planning. Don’t fall into a trap when you must do such and such thing a certain way, or at specific time or place. If you always put on a blue suit on Thursday, or go to an Italian restaurant on Tuesday, break the habit every once in a while. Even doing things you like can become stressful if you’re stuck in the same old rut week after boring week.

Stress can best be managed by realizing what you can change about your life and knowing what you can’t. Learn how to recognize the difference and you’ll enjoy life more and be better able to deal the ups and downs that are part of everyone’s life.

34 LEGAL METHODS TO CUT HIGH POSTAGE COSTS…..

1. For local messages, telephone instead of sending a letter.
2. Use postcards as often as possible. Save on stamps AND envelopes.
3. Don’t buy stamps from vending machines where a service charge is added.
4. If you operate your own business, remember that postage is tax deductible.
5. Pay local bills in person instead of mailing them.
6. Save postage stamps off your incoming mail. Then sell them at flea markets, garage sales, neighborhood yard and tag sales, etc.
7. Use 3rd class mail when speed isn’t important and pocket big savings.
8. Don’t “overstamp” your mail. Purchase an inexpensive postal scale or have your local Post Office weigh your mail for you.
9. When sending 1st class mail, remember that while the first ounce requires a 1st class stamp, additional ounces cost less. Pick up a postal rate guide from your local Post Office.
10. Post Office “stamped” envelopes are expensive. Save by buying packets of envelopes from variety and discount stores.
11. Don’t pay extra for “airmail” between distant points in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. All such mail is automatically sent via air at 1st class rates.
12. Always use your zip code on your mail for faster delivery. If you don’t know the zip code, your local Post Office can look it up for you.
13. If speed and timing is important, deposit your mail early in the day.
14. If you have special instructions such as “Special Delivery”, mark this plainly on all letters and packages, in big letters for all to see.
15. Pay bills by personal checks. It is less expensive then Postal money orders.
16. Avoid ordering merchandise via “C.O.D.”. The C.O.D. charge is generally added to the cost of your order.
17. When insuring a package or letter, insure it for its value only – and no more. If it is lost, you will be paid for the actual value only.
18. Use “Special Delivery” during nights and weekends only. During the week, Special Delivery is handled the same as regular first class mail and given special attention at the destination only.
19. Never spend on “Special Delivery” mail sent to a Post Office box.
20. If your require proof of delivery, use “Certified” mail instead of more expensive “Registered” mail.
21. When mailing large quantities of identical “printed matter” mail, investigate “bulk mail” rat.es. Inquire at your local Post Office.
22. When shipping parcels, compare ra.tes charged by other carriers such as United Parcel Service, Greyhound, freight companies, etc.
23. When mailing books, use the lower 4th class “book rate”.
24. Reweigh “Postage Due” mail in the event an error has been made.
25. Avoid using odd-shaped “non-standard” size envelopes. The Post Office charges extra if envelopes do not conform to certain size specifications.
26. When mailing printed matter overseas, use the lower “surface ra.te” and write “Printed Matter” on the envelope, if airmail isn’t necessary.
27. Never mail cash. If it gets lost, you have no proof that it was sent.
28. Be sure that your return address is on all outgoing mail. It will be returned to you it it is undeliverable and sent via first class.
29. Save time! (Time is mon.ey) Buy larger quantities of stamps at one time and avoid standing in long Post Office lines often.
30. Use large brown grocery bags for wrapping packages instead of buying sheets of wrapping paper. Use saved string and twine for this same purpose.
31. When shipping fragile items, decrease shipping weight by using popped corn as the packing material, instead of heavier crumpled newspapers.
32. Let postal workers suggest other methods for sav.ing on postage costs.
33. Check your Christmas card list carefully and eliminate unnecessary names.
34. When buying sheets of stamps, save the corner “plate number blocks”. They could increase in value and make excellent future ”investments”.

Ask For What You Want.

It’s time to stop expecting other people to read your mind. Think about how frustrating it is for you when someone expects you to know what they are thinking.

It’s just a set up for failure. Be willing to ask concisely, pleasantly, and honestly for what you want and need in your life.

Ask yourself, “Do I expect people in my life to ‘just know’ what I need and want? Am I able to do that for other people on a 99% correct basis? No! So I will respect others by telling them what I need, and asking them to tell me as well.”

Quick and Easy Christmas Planning Tips

It’s best to plan a Christmas party a few weeks ahead of time. Don’t leave it to the last minute, like your Christmas shopping, because chances are that you will not be able to pull off the spectacular Christmas party that you’ve been planning for if you do this. A great party takes a lot of effort and organization. Now to make this task easier, here are some tips:

1. You have to decide first what type of Christmas party you want to have, and where you want to throw it. If you decide to hold it at a venue, you have to make reservations ahead of time.

2. If you’re going to have your Christmas party at home, go crazy with the decorations! Christmas trees are a must. Nothing reminds you of Christmas better than a Christmas tree. This will be the centerpiece of your party. This will set a festive mood, and get everyone into the holiday spirit.

3. Make a guest list. You don’t want to spread the word out on your party just via word of mouth. Your party will fall into utter chaos, especially if some unwanted guests suddenly come streaming into your house. Also, organizing a guest list will help you estimate how much food you need to prepare. This is especially helpful if you are thinking of hiring a caterer.

4. Once you’ve made a guest list, start sending out those invitations. Send them out early, so your guests will have time to juggle their busy schedules.

5. Don’t forget your entertainment. If you’re just planning to throw a casual party for your friends, then you can just do some karaoke. For those who are thinking of throwing a more formal party, you might want to hire the services of a DJ, just to keep the excitement going all throughout the party.

6. Buy tons and tons of food! There’s a reason why people pack in the pounds during the holiday. During this time, people like to eat. They treat themselves and leave the dieting for the New Year. If you feel that your cooking is not up to this task, it would be best to avail the help of a catering service. This way, you don’t have to do all the hard work! This also leaves you more time to take care of those last minute preparations.

7. Finally, when throwing a party always remember to have a blast!

With these simple tips your Christmas party will become a success…and oh yeah, don’t forget to hang some mistletoe.

Help us to remember…
Heavenly Father, Help us remember
that the jerk who cut us off in traffic
last night is a single mother who
worked nine hours that day and
is rushing home to cook dinner,
help with homework,
do the laundry and spend a
few precious moments
with her children.

Help us to remember that the
pierced, tattooed, disinterested
young man who can’t make
change correctly is a worried
19-year-old college student,
balancing his apprehension
over final exams with his
fear of not getting his
student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord,
that the scary looking bum,
begging for money in the same
spot every day (who really ought
to get a job!) is a slave to addictions
that we can only imagine in our
worst nightmares.

Help us to remember that the
old couple walking annoyingly
slow through the store aisles
and blocking our shopping
progress are savoring this
moment, knowing that,
based on the biopsy report
she got back last week, this
will be the last year that they
go shopping together.

Heavenly Father,
remind us each day that,
of all the gifts you give us,
the greatest gift is love.

It is not enough to share
that love with those we hold dear.
Open our hearts not to
just those who are close to us,
but to all humanity.

Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive,
show patience, empathy and love.

Now for some humour!
– 0 to 200 in less than 5 seconds

Frank was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was Really angry.

She told him, “Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in less than 5 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE.”

The next morning Frank got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough, there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway.

Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house.

She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Funeral services for Frank have been scheduled for Friday.
