Goal setting is one technique that directs your subconscious and conscious decisions to succeed. Goal setting strengthens your motivation to attain your business or personal goals. In general, this technique emerged from numerous practical experiences as well as psychology research.

Goal setting helps you decide or prioritize your desires. By knowing exactly what you desire to accomplish, you will have a better focus and concentrate your efforts. Furthermore, proper setting of goals can be extremely motivating. As it becomes a habit, you will discover that your self-esteem is turbo-charged.

Actually, people set goals when they plan what they want to achieve for the day, week or month. These include simple goals like clean the house, do the laundry, finish homework, etc. You make a decision on what you want to do, then discover what is needed to accomplish your goal. From there, you move into complex goals leading to your future.

Here are some goal setting guidelines:

1. Be accurate. You need to set an accurate goal and indicate specific time frame and resources required. Having measurable goals helps in measuring levels of achievement. Doing this will enable you to discover exactly when the goal has been achieved. Furthermore, this will motivate you on setting another goal.

2. Write down your goals. This ties them together and provides reinforcement.

self improvement 3. Set only goals that are realistic. Take note that you only want to set achievable goals. Disappointment sets in if you set a very high goal and fail to reach it.

4. Set priorities. If you have numerous goals, then you need to number them according to importance. This will help you from feeling overwhelmed, direct your concentration to the most significant ones, and achieve goals one by one.

5. Keep goals manageable. Work on achievable and small goals. If your goal is too big, then it may appear daunting and difficult to achieve. Small and incremental goals provide more reward opportunities. Derive smaller goals from huge ones.

6. Set performance-type goals rather than outcome goals. Set goals wherein you have complete control of the situation.

It is very frustrating to be in situations not within your control. These include bad business surroundings, bad weather, poor judgements, or injury.

When you establish goals based on your personal capability, you can maintain control over your achievement.

7. Never set “low” goals. As it is vital not to establish unrealistic goals, also never set your goals “too low”.

People are inclined to set easy goals because they often fear failure. You must achieve balance in setting your goals. It should not be too low that it would not present a challenge or too high that it becomes unreachable.

Remember this: Goal setting is an important element in achieving success. Also, flexibility and persistence are needed in setting your goals.

When faced with unexpected problems and difficulties, use your determination and persistence to stick with your goals. However, you should also become flexible with your activities and objectives. If your strategies do not work, then try another means and keep on trying until you discover one that really works for you!

“ The Importance of Time Management in Life” improvement self training self improvement article

Time is something that you can never take back.

What’s done is done. Nothing in history can be changed. The most we can do about anything that has already been done is to take counter measures to prevent the damage from spreading. However, there is one more effective way to stop the damage and that is to prevent it.

“Prevention is better than cure.”

This quote is most often used in terms of disease and illness; however, this can also be done for future mistakes. Time management is a form of prevention, specifically cramming, low quality work, even fatigue prevention. Some say that the one thing that a busy person needs to manage is time.

Why is time management so important? Time is the most important commodity. Time never comes back. It never rewinds like videotape. Here are the most common reasons why time is so important:

1. Time cannot be stored
Everyone no matter how rich or poor spends time the same way, it doesn't speed up for the rich and slow down for the poor. Time management is equal to wise usage of time. This may be the difference between fame and failure.

2. Time is rare
Yes, everybody has the same number of hours, but haven't you noticed that people are complaining that they don't have enough of it? There is just “so little time and so much to do” that people go out of focus. Time management means giving importance to priorities and nearer deadlines and these give you enough for the crucial activities in life.

3. Time is needed for everything
Everything takes time; everything needs time to materialize. With time management, each task is given enough time to be finished. By giving a sliver of time for each of your goals and accounting for it wisely, you will be able to achieve them, plus make time for rest. Truth is, even little time produces work. If distributed wisely throughout the day or week, you would be surprised to how much you can accomplish.

4. Time management helps you finish more jobs with less effort
By allotting a certain amount of time for each activity, you don’t have to worry about the next thing that you will do. With time management, you become more organized and the things you do become more habitual than panic-driven. By making it a habit, you become more productive. As Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. ”

In modern times, each product, place, or gadget has minute differences that make it very hard for you to choose. There are so many opportunities to choose from as to what to do with your time. By having a plan, you will be able to make intelligent choices. By becoming more conscious of the available time and the choices you've made so far, you focus more on your priorities rather than useless work.

Time management is indeed a gem. Once it becomes a habit, it will be more beneficial than time-consuming.

“ The Power of Willpower” improvement self training self improvement article

The impact of willpower on career advancement can never be under-emphasized. Passionate people are ever at an advantage. If you are not as passionate as you would like, despair not. There are ways.

Willpower, albeit difficult, is learnable skill. Some people say it takes 21 days to build a habit. Beyond that, having a dose of willpower everyday will eventually make you reach a point where willpower becomes natural.

Failure can be a great hindrance in motivating your self. However, people who are gifted with a healthy dose of willpower will not back down on any course. The truth of the matter is, every endeavor represents a challenge.

Our perspective and level of commitment make other fields difficult. For example, a person is asked to sell boats. A person who has more interest in technological gadgets over something perceivably mundane as boats would find this project extra challenging and more likely to be easily frustrated. However, a person with a natural knack for sailing will definitely have the drive to keep at it and most probably meet and exceed the clients’ expectations.

A rule of thumb: it is not a one-time big time thing. On the contrary, it takes more than an overnight success. Willpower without passing the acid test of time is not willpower at all.

In your job, you may downsized for many reasons. Life is unfair by nature. You cannot change circumstances but you can definitely change your view on career and life in general. In fact, W-I-L-L-P-O-W-E-R means:

W - isely discerning the work situation before doing it will give you a gauge on the energy required to do it.

I - nitially counting the cost will help keep your will intact. You know what is expected and will be able to calculate the risks. You will less likely falter because you have researched the job you are getting into.

L - iving life one step at a time to keep you from being burned out. You need to have outlets. You are not a machine. Work must just be part of your life, not the be-all and end-all of it.

L - oving your job is the greatest motivation. You will more likely to stay if you learn to love what you do even if a co-worker gets the credit for something you did or you get much flack for doing the right thing in the job.

P - rayer is another option. Wherever you are, you cannot make it in this life if you don't seek help from a Higher Source, especially with toxic bosses, who require a total pray over and a week of fasting.

O - vertime is an option and not a necessity. Never be motivated just because of the money. Ill feeling resulting from lack of rest may deceive you to think that you no longer want the job, but the reality is that you just needed forty winks more than the digits in your paycheck!

W - rong calculations and judgments need to be corrected as soon as possible. No matter how much you prepare, unpredictable circumstances could deter you. Use the fight or flight approach. Fight if you feel there is improvement in your career status over time. Flight if you see that your stay is futile and will need more wisdom than willpower.

E - ncouragement must be taken daily from outside sources. This is quite self-explanatory.

R - espect the company and your self. If you respect yourself, you would not subject yourself to situations that will force you to move all your employment papers excessively. Human beings need a routine or a sense of permanence in career which only a job well-considered and committed to can provide.

Willpower is practiced when you find your own niche in life. It could be anything as simple as making scrapbook or collecting seashells. This confidence will consequently help you bank on greater and greater endeavors. Your resistance to challenges and pitfalls will increase as you increase the workload and strive to improve on quality. Use your willpower!
