“24 Good reasons why you may need vitamin supplements”

Many people believe that eating a well balanced diet provides all the vitamins and minerals necessary for good health.

In ideal circumstances, this is the case, but in reality there are many reasons why you may need vitamin supplements to cope with living in the twentieth century environment.

Taking vitamins when required is a safe method of optimizing your dietary sources of nutrients, providing you follow the instructions on product labels.

Beating the Breakfast Rush Hour
In many families, morning is a hectic and hurried time. Frequently parents feel fortunate just to get everyone out the door fully dressed each day.

Serve a hot cooked breakfast every morning?

Not a chance. Breakfast (if it’s served at all) often consists of grabbing a toaster pastry and a quick glass of juice as the family runs out the door racing headlong to work and school.

“The Difference Between Natural and Synthetic Vitamins”
A chemist might contend that a synthetic vitamin is the same as a natural one.

After all, the chemical structure is the same.

Does it really matter where it comes from? A vitamin is a vitamin, right?

Not exactly.

In nature, vitamins occur as part of a complex system of other vitamins, enzymes, and nutrients.

“Vitamin Supplements And Healthy Diets”
As the EU moves to regulate or limit public access to vitamins and mineral supplements, once again the same tired and worn phrase is heard: “a healthy diet meets most people’s needs.”

Once again, vitamins and mineral supplements are reduced to the status of unnecessary nonsense sought only by the common, the uneducated and the very silly public.

And, once again, the stodgy inference is made that a “healthy diet” is always (in these modern times of ours) within our fork’s range.

The truth however, is that the majority of the world (including the United States) does not have easy access to a “healthy diet,” due in part to the fact that very few people know what a healthy diet actually is.

“Vitamin B6 Reduces the Risk of Colon Cancer”
Vitamin B6 is involved in some of the most important processes in your body, including protein metabolism, hormone function, red blood cell formation, and the operation of your immune and nervous systems.

And according to a new study from Harvard Medical School, high levels of B6 provide protection from the third most common cancer in the U.S. – colon cancer.

“Using Carrot Juice for Relieving Constipation”
Carrot juices contain certain oils that work on the mucus membranes of the stomach and colon.

This helps with digestion and starts your bowels functioning properly.

Carrots are high in fiber and beta-carotene, an antioxidant, which the body converts to vitamin A.

“The Benefits of Ancient Chinese Medicine: Documented for Over Four Centuries”
Five hundred years before Christ, healers in China were already beginning to make progress with understanding, diagnosing, and treating the human body.

While most other cultures might have been guessing at causes of disease and using primitive procedures to treat them, healers in China were much more advanced in their studies.

“That Brilliant Vitamin: Vitamin B”
Perhaps you first read riboflavin at the back of a cereal box.

Perhaps you first encountered folic acid from your first grade science teacher. Perhaps you first heard balanced diet from your mom.

All that and more compose Vitamin B which is a group of eight individual vitamins, often referred to as B vitamins or B-complex vitamins.

“Treating Kids’ Allergies”
dults with allergies sometimes tough it out, if they know their allergy season is limited or if they feel they can handle the sniffles and runny eyes.

But you can’t take that same attitude with a child.

Respiratory allergies can lead to chronic conditions, which for kids can mean ear infections, asthma, or altered facial structure caused by constant mouth-breathing.

“The Ultimate Natural Health Kit”
If you are tired of going off to your doctor time and again and either being prescribed medication which is of little use to your symptoms, or more frequently these days, being sent away without any at all, never fear.

Here are some of the most effective remedies for all those niggling little ailments which can often ruin the Summer for sufferers.

“The Type Of Food and Nutrition That Can Help You Lose Weight Fast”
The following are diet tips that can help you shape up and lose weight:

1. Try and adopt a vegetarian diet. A vegetarian diet is undoubtedly better for those of us watching our diet. There are a lot of advantages of keeping to a vegetarian diet but I don’t want to sing an ode to vegetarianism now.

What I would suggest is keep to a vegetarian diet as much as you can. Make a non- vegetarian diet a week end event or something if you find it impossible to give up eating all those animals.

“The Truth about McDonalds and Children”
The United States is the fattest nation on earth. Sixty-five per cent of American adults are overweight; 30 per cent are obese. In the decade between 1991 and 2001, obesity figures almost doubled.

But the truly shocking thing is that we’ve taught our kids how to be fat, too. Obesity rates in American children remained stable throughout the 1960s, but they began to climb in the 1970s.

In the past 20 years, the rate of obesity has doubled in children and trebled in teenagers. Kids are starting to clock in as obese as early as the age of two. If we find that surprising, we shouldn’t.

“The High Price of Cheap Food”
When we picture a farm, we picture scenes from Old MacDonald and “Charlotte’s Web,” not warehouses with 10,000 chickens, or dairy cows ankle deep in ordure, clustered under tin sheds in blazing Central Valley heat.

When we picture the cows, they’re grazing on grass, not eating carefully formulated mixes of poultry waste and orange peels.

Our understanding of the way our food is produced is so out of date that it takes a mad cow for Christmas to force our gaze to the farming world beyond the refrigerator case.

“The GI Diet Explained”
The latest ‘hot’ diet to hit the market is the ‘GI Diet’ or ‘Glycaemic Index’ diet.

Used by stars such as Kylie Minogue and Helen Porter, the GI Diet was invented in 1981 by Dr David Jenkins and is actually well respected by qualified nutritionists too, so it’s not just the latest ‘celeb fad’ diet.

Dr Jenkins based his ideas on his observations into how different carb-rich foods affect human blood sugar levels in diabetics.

Self help article on NUTRITION SUPPLEMENT, HERBS & VITAMINS:

A wise practitioner once said never to purchase parachutes, contact lenses or pacemakers based solely on bargain basement prices.

The same principle holds true for vitamin and mineral supplements. You usually get exactly what you pay for.

Following time honored practices of the drug industry, many “natural” food supplements contain an awesome list of synthetic fillers. In general, the more filler, the cheaper the supplement.

If it’s in a tablet, the chances are close to 100% that some type of harmful filler will be found in the tablet.

With some exceptions, pure substances such as vitamin, mineral chelates, herbs or amino acids do not possess the necessary characteristics which allow them to be compressed directly without the addition of binders, lubricants, diluents, disintegrators, coloring and flavoring agents.

The larger the tablet, the more it requires the use of binders such as hydrogenated oils (e.g. calcium or magnesium stearate). Smaller tablets may be manufactured using the cellulose derivatives (ethyl, methyl) as binders.

Time release tablets are perhaps the most worrisome. For example, the release of 1000 mg. of Vitamin C over a period of 6 hours may require the addition of 400 mg. of hydrogenated oil (plastic butter) to the tablet. The addition of more oil prolongs the release, while the use of less allows quicker disintegration.

Supplements in a vegetable-based capsule, powder or liquid form do not have such requirements and are far less likely to contain toxic additives.

If you are a strict vegetarian, beware of gelatin-encapsulated supplements. Gelatin used in the manufacture of capsules is derived from collagenous beef (bovine) or pork (porcine/swine) material.

Although it is true that most healthy people will have no obvious side effects from ingesting the small amount of toxins found in cheap vitamins, the long term consequences of continuous, daily intakes are potentially dangerous.

Over 7% of the population displays sensitivity to these chemicals which, for the most part, do not elicit immediate allergic reactions in the average healthy person.

Allergic reactions can affect any organ system in the body including the brain which often displays symptoms such as fatigue, memory loss, depression, anxiety, hallucinations and insomnia.

Today, the most commonly used excipients in drugs, vitamin, mineral and other tableted items are listed below:
