To maintain your levels of happiness in your life, no matter what happens in your day, be Flexible. Don’t be a Perfectionist and do try to be Adaptable in your expectations of yourself and events around you.

Our expectations can be so inflexible that even one small event can ruin the day for you. By maintaining an openness to changes in your plans and having back up strategies you will feel great every day.

If you want self help resources that relate to a specific life stage or lifestyle category issue, go to the Navbar for your current life stage and lifestyle and select resources from that self help section.

The articles linked below are resources to enable you to develop greater flexibility in your life expectations, perceptions, reactions, and to allow more moments of happiness into your awareness.

A wise teacher once said, " No appointments, no disappointments."

We experience these somewhat similar emotions when we have created expectations concerning what we will receive from others, God, life or even from ourselves. We might also feel such emotions concerning our own abilities or efforts when we are unable to achieve the goals we desire.

We feel this way when things do not happen the way we expected, or more often, when others are not who we expected them to be. We develop expectations, and then feel cheated when we they are not fulfilled.

Also, when we do not achieve the results we desire, we feel disappointed and disillusioned in ourselves, others or God.

When we succumb to such feelings, we often give up making any further effort, which in turn obstructs our growth.

Positive alternatives to disappointment and disillusionment could be:

1. Understand that we are all in a process of evolution and that no one is perfect. It is unreasonable to expect of demand perfection from ourselves or others. We would not be here in this evolutionary process if we did not have much to improve.

2. Faith in the flow of life. There is a wisdom greater than ours. We usually want to get our desired results immediately if not "yesterday". We need to learn that change, manifestation and creation are usually slow organic processes like a plant growing. There are, however, moments of quantum leaps.

3. Confidence that with patience, practice and perseverance, we can manifest the changes we seek. We can develop greater trust in our ability to manifest our goals and life purpose with or without the help of specific person.

4. Greater self-sufficiency will allow us to need less from the other and thus not be so dependent on them, expecting so much from them. When we feel secure, worthy and fulfilled within our selves we need much less from others and experience disappointment less frequently.

5. A larger sense of time, in which we realize that, any efforts made for less than fifty years, are actually small in relationship to the immensity of our being.

“Fun Personality Test”
This is a real test given by the Human Relations Dept at many of the major corporations today. It helps them get a better insight concerning their employees and prospective employees.

It's only 10 simple questions, so... Grab a pencil and paper, keeping track of your letter answers.

Take a look at your To Do list. If you had to categorize each task or project into work or fun, which way would the scale tip?

For most people, To Do lists contain work affiliated activities -- whether they are business related or household chore related. When you're making your To Do list, don't only include those items that you HAVE to do.

HA201 How to Let Go: The Principle of “witnessing”, self help article by Bill Harris
Everyday we communicate with dozens of people using the Centerpointe program, some of whom are having a hard time with the program. Sometimes these people are angry, depressed, fearful, anxious, or confused -- or are creating any number of other responses.

One of the main instructions we give these people is to "watch what is happening -- watch with curiosity."

HA206 Pain and Suffering: The Principle of Good and Bad Generalizations self help article by Bill Harris
By now, most of you know that I am of the opinion that it is not necessary to live a life that contains suffering, and that there are definite ways to change your life from one containing suffering to one where you are happy and peaceful all the time.

Most of you also know that, in my opinion, the way to do this is to cultivate the ability to let whatever happens be okay and to not resist "what is."

This doesn't mean you're okay with injustice and suffering or don't do anything about them. It means you emotionally accept things the way they are and do not resist what is.

HA207 Secrets of Success; How to Be a Perfect Failure, self help article by Bill Harris
In my opinion, one of the greatest highs in life is creating something and watching it work once it has been created.

Humans were meant to be creative creatures and evolution has rewarded creativity and achievement with wonderful and pleasurable bursts of neurochemicals our brains create whenever we do something creative -- not to mention possible financial rewards and the satisfaction and increased confidence that comes of having done something well.

But many people never (or rarely) experience this high. Why is this? Why do people not use this creative equipment they were born with and make their life an orgy of fun and creating?

HA77 Doing the Remarkable by Jim Rohn
When it comes to meeting and conquering the negativity in your life, here is a key question: what can you do, starting today, that will make a difference?

What can you do during economic chaos? What can you do when everything has gone wrong? What can you do when you've run out of money, when you don't feel well and it's all gone sour?

What can you do? Let me give you the broad answer first. You can do the most remarkable things, no matter what happens.

HA74 Change Begins with Choice by Jim Rohn
Any day we wish; we can discipline ourselves to change it all. Any day we wish; we can open the book that will open our mind to new knowledge. Any day we wish; we can start a new activity.

Any day we wish; we can start the process of life change. We can do it immediately, or next week, or next month, or next year.

We can also do nothing. We can pretend rather than perform. And if the idea of having to change ourselves makes us uncomfortable, we can remain as we are.

We can choose rest over labor, entertainment over education, delusion over truth, and doubt over confidence.

HA25 Truths which aid Forgiveness by RE Najemy
Some truths which will help us forgive others are (some are based on various spiritual beliefs or Christian concepts which might not be acceptable to you or the subject):

HA67 Ill go Anywhere as Long as its Forward by Robert Warlow
I saw a great quote the other day on an advertising board, from Dr David Livingstone, “I’ll go anywhere as long as it’s forward.”

Obviously said in the context of his goal to explore the depths of darkest Africa but isn’t it a great maxim to live your life by?

By living your life with the goal that every action you take has to move you forward, you will quickly see possibilities which you never saw before. Your mind will seek out new opportunities to move you forward

HA95 Take Time to Make Time, by Jeanie Marshall
Powerful time management and personal development article on how to become more efficient, organized with better time management strategies:

“You are today where your thoughts have brought you; You will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.” - James Allen

Frequently, we say, “I don’t have time to…..” Often this is just an excuse to justify doing something else or not doing anything at all.

HA50 Moving Through Puddles, self help article by Jeanie Marshall
A "puddle" is the ultimate reframing of a "bottomless pit" or a "dark hole" or an "abyss" or an "unfathomable chasm" or "deep yogurt" or an "empty void" or -- well, you get the idea. "Moving through puddles" includes the concept of cycles, of life in constant change. We move through puddles more easily when we understand that everything is moving and changing, including us!

HA81 It's OK to be Selfish Once in a While! by Jeanine Herrin
I don't believe everyone -or at least most- intentionally are trying to take advantage of you, it's just that you are always THERE to do for others and you seem to make it easy for them to ask, you know the sound, "Mom, I've got to go shopping, can you keep the kids for a few hours, Mom, going away for the week-end, can you keep the kids, etc? or "Mrs.xxx, I've got a lot of errands to run today, would you mind so much taking me in you car?”

How about, "We need a volunteer to handle the church bake sale, will you do it?" I could go on and on, but I think you get what I'm talking about!

“The 3 Shocking MYTHS About Sleep That You Don't Know About - Which Are Depriving You of Your Life Energy. ”
MYTH #1 ) “If you sleep longer, you'll be more awake and have more energy in your life” TRUTH: Sleeping Longer ROBS You of Energy and Damages your Sleeping System.

There are several reasons why sleeping longer damages your sleep system. What most people don't know is that there is a very important element of your inner sleep clock which is prior wakefulness.

HA23 Virus of the Mind by Tom Horn
You've heard of ordinary viruses – those microscopic entities that get inside your body and replicate themselves.

They war against your natural resistances and make you feel rotten. And through your coughs and sneezes they jump onto other people and make them feel rotten too.

HA16b The Folly of Problem Solving by Tom Horn
We are already familiar with strategies of predictability and have called them science, technology and logic.

These have been used to solve our problems. Each of us has to solve the problems of providing ourselves with food, clothing, shelter, warmth, health and friendship.

HA17 The Fate of Public Enemy Number 1 by Tom Horn
We live in a world of patterns. But, according to science, patterns are unlikely.

Any patterns that do occur are described as chance events that become quickly reabsorbed into a pervading trend towards formlessness or featurelessness.

HA21 Why do trees, frogs and people Exist? by Tom Horn
It's a miracle that we are here at all.

Our very best researches tell us that the whole world has been going down the tubes from the very beginning.

HA24 Two Fairy Tales reveal the Secret of Life by Tom Horn
When we were young we became acquainted with the stories of Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks. Both these little girls have encounters with wild beasts and one is eaten, whilst the other gets clean away. Why were the fates of the little girls so different? If we knew the reason, it might be useful in everyday life.

When I first heard the stories, I enjoyed them at face value and, like all children, did not possess the 'power' to understand the depth of meaning behind them. Then I grew up and, after much folly and suffering, began my search 'in the wilderness' for the meaning of life. One day the connection between the two apparently unconnected stories just came to me from out of the blue. Bear with me as I recount the tales.
